Best would be a TechI Tech II capable like GM would have. The price is $5000 new.

Next is snap-on MT-2500 Over $1000 new, don't remember The exact price but seen on ebay.(Has to have cartirdge for 6.5 possibly) Memory reset and Timing learn functions.

The there's what i have, no functions all sensor readouts. $350 new plus a palm or laptop needed.

Then you can get a DTC scanner that will still be a few hundred and only clears and reads DTC's.

Bowtie, I'm not sure a MT2500 will work on a OBD-I for time set, I have a modified routine that works on my OBD_II takes a little longer with it than a T-2 but it does work.

MT2500s are pretty common many small garages have them, find one of thos and see if they can set time with it, or call Snap-On. Ebay usuaqlly has them at pretty good prices if you trust the deal, or a lot of Times your local snap-on guy will have one he took in for trade for the newer model.

One thing I like about my MT2500 it works on other mfr as well with the right setup. T2 has more capability but is GM only IIRC

Check your diagnostic connector/harness, if mine isn't plugged in correctly I'll get that message, also is your X ray tool a OBDI or OBDII only, I had to buy a adapter to make my scanner which was OBD-I only, be capable of working both systems.

Does anyone know about this software? I have a Dell Axim X5 and thought this may be better than a simple scanner?

Ease has the same thing. I think you're going to want to make sure your diesel truck will be readable by the software. Most that don't specify won't read a diesel.
