Hey guys,

Can I get an idea of how I should disassemble this pump to look at the fuel solenoid?

Band saw it in half so you can get some cut-away pics.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

I loosened the allen/torx bolts, one bottom, two on the sides, the two tiny torx screw in the end of the sol and the other obvious bolts and nothing came loose. Edited by: quantum mechanic

The fuel solenoid is right there with the 2 terminals sticking out of the back, put the 2 terminals and the 2 torx screws back in, they don't have to be tight, then remove the screw on the side of the solenoid holding down the lock plate. use a 9/16 on one of the injection line ports to hold the pump while you use...whatever you can find to unscrew the solenoid from the head. Then remove the 2 terminals and 2 screws and the cap can be twisted off, theres just an o-ring holding it on now, but it will be tight.

OK, I didn't realize it just needed a twist.

TDG called it dead on when he said fuel solenoid and broken screw. I noticed it had minimal wear on the armature plate and I wonder why I couldn't back the broken screw end out and get it to work again.

armature is unserviceable, after it comes apart, you'll never get it to stay together again. The parts may not look that bad, but remember, worn is worn out. Kind of hard to tell from the pic, but yours looks to be in a lot better shape than the one Realdiesel.com showed.Edited by: Texas Diesel Guy

So how deep do you plan to go with this pump? if you want to remove the actual solenoid, remove the sealing o-ring, replace the cap and finger tighten the screws back in place and unscrew it with a screw driver and a 9/16 to hold the pump.

Never? Is that a challange? I'll invest a dollar on screws and try it, but I'd still need an optical for it to begin to work and I'd have to put it in something to check it, unless some one like Brian with the diesel shop near hear has a bench calibration set-up. Edited by: quantum mechanic
