Im in the process of tryin to changer my FF. Ive only made it as far as where Eric says to disconnect the electrical connections. Well i got the small one the WIF one, however i cant get the heater one to come apart.....Tho theres onthing to real grip to, i think its setup from never been takin apart...Ive thought about using a screwdriver to try and pry in where the little tab locks in, but im afraid ill over do it and break something....Any advice??
2ndly is it really necassary for it to be taken apart?? I dont see where its in the way, and i dont know why it would matter if its hooked up....Is something to do w/so in case feul accidently gets on it???

Take the inner plastic fender liner out and then you will be able to see what is going on...

Then the filter is easily removed from the opening.

Polarbear,

Those "Plastic Things" cost a buck or less. Go to the dealer and get 10 of them and don't look back. Good luck with the FF.

In reading through all of those posts on changing the fuel filter, doesn't it say that you don't have to remove the fuel heater connection? I thought that one went to the top of the filter housing and not the bottom of the filter.

Check out this link and read the post from Roegs that is almost at the bottom of the first page.

No need to yank heater connection. If you can lay up on top with a towel, no need for liner removal, though it's easier. Spray wheelwell liner pins with a lubricant first, before careful, patient removal, and maybe grease them or spray superlube on them before reassembly. I know some guys grease them.

Polarbear,
You don't have to remove the second wire connector. The smaller one has to be removed but the larger one can stay in the holder. Then remove the filter according to the rest of the instructions.

No need to pull the fender liner -- just remove the battery. Total job takes less than 5 minutes.

Remove battery, real easy. Watch hot cable as it is still hot, I just put some ele. tape on it. 10 minute job.

I didnt have to remove the battery or nothing. Just disconnect one plug and unscrew it and screw the new one on. Just dont forget to prime the system. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif
