I have a 2004 LB7 with Calif. emissions. I put on the Banks exhaust system which included removing the catalytic convertor. I put it on right after I got the truck and it runs and sounds great. After reading on here how GMC is becoming stricter about aftermarket stuff I'm wondering if anyone has run into any hassles for removing their catalyltic converters. I saved mine naturally but I don't want to have to reinstall it everytime I go to the dealer. I've had it in one time and they did a reflash and no one mentioned it. Maybe they didn't notice. I would appreciate your guys input.I have 15K mi on the truck. Thanks

Might I add that I am also concerned about warranty issues and what you guys think....

I can let you know next week when I take mine in. It will be on the rack so they'll either notice or won't care.

Depends on the dealer. Some are willing to work with you, others are not. It also depends on what kind of problem you might have that needs to be addressed.

Basically you've modified one area of the truck so problems associated with that area are probably going to be your problem. But the other consideration is that technically you've voided the warranty and violated Federal Law regarding the emission equipment on your truck.

You need to have a discussion with your SM about it, in a hypothectical sense unless you want to put the CAT back on first. See what he says and you'll have a better idea how to proceed.

Zeeb, Thanks for the info...My SM is pretty cool so I'll ask him.

Terrain Twister, I await your findings.....PS how was the SoCal Dyno Day?

You won't have a problem unless, they feel the problem with your truck is related to the cat. Then they will tell you that you have to put the cat back on before they proceed to fix your truck. They will defend themselves by saying that they can't get a diagnosis without it being on. So the only real concern is hope to not have an issue that involves the cat. John

Got around to calling the SM at my dealership today. I bought the truck there and I take my 02 Trailblazer there also. He mentioned Federal Laws but he said it doesn't make any difference to him. He said "take it off". He really doesn't seem to know much about diesels but he makes the calls around there as far as the service dept....Plus I always mail back the GM questionaires and I mention what a nice guy he ishttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

Hi Gruber,

Sorry you had to miss the Dyno Day. Wish your family the best.

Had a great time. We'll have to plan a big get together when Diesel Power makes it down. If he can't make it within the next few months maybe we'll have to plan one anyway. The riding season is about to start so camping is definitely in!http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

TT, I'm located in OC and was wondering which dealer you take your DMax to have work done and also is there a particular mechanic you can recommend.

Thanks for your help

hdfatboy,

Haven't been to when since I picked it up. I'm looking at going to Nicholas Chevrolet in Garden Grove. Socaldieseltech works there and I thought I'd give him a try. He says the S/M is also great to work with. Feel better with someone on the forum working on it. I do need to check out the dealership I bought it from though. Need to get a feel for the people and S/M there. I'm actually down in Lake Forest.

Morning,

Just as an FYI I posted this elsewhere but it directly addresses this warranty concern:

The MBRP systems we have do exaclty what you're asking for. The system starts/bolts on at the 4 bolt flange after the cat. We also have a test pipe for off road racing use that bolts to the front of the 4 bolt flange and goes up under the firewall to the V band clamp. 4 bolta and one clmp and you can interchange the factory front pipe in minutes. To my knowledge we are the only company that has the easily installed/uninstalled front pipe system

Check this link to a review of the systems done on this site:

Update, socaldieseltech took care of mehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif. Only time anything was said to me was in a private conversation with socaldieseltech and that was a curiousity with the 6-Gun. Outside of where it plugs in the rest is hidden. Owe him a ride now!
