: New truck pricing $$$
Hey all,
Wanted to get some opinions on a price I am being offered
2004 HD2500 SLT 4X4. Stock but has all the options including a dealer installed DVD for the back seat. D/A combo with about 50 miles on it.
He is saying MSRP is around $47,805, Invoice around $42,000 minus the HOLD BACK of around $1500. (i dont understand what holdback is) Also, if i do get a deal for say like $500 over invoice as an example, do the $2500 in rebates THEN apply and lower the price?
He is asking $45000.00, does this seem like a fair deal? Without the DVD it is $43000.00
thanks

srode 08-20-2004, 08:09 PM I personally would never pay more than invoice minus what ever incentives are available. Don't know if that is reasonable in your neck fo the woods, but it's pretty standard pricing around here. Where are you located?
In San Diego, CA. I went by the dealer and talked with them in person. Got an invoice printout of the truck I was looking at. Invoice is 42,7?? which included the $850 destination fee and 2 other fees for like $450 each. Labeled "LAN Dealer" and "LAM Group Contribution" He said these are marketing fees that GM passes on to the dealers.
What is up with these? Is it normal for the consumer to pick up these fees along with the destination fee and taxes like normal?
He said the they bought these trucks at invoice MINUS about $1500 in HOLDBACK money. What should I be watching out for to make sure I get a good buy? Thanks again for any feedback.
DAYUUUM I LOVE this site :)
GreenDuramax04 08-20-2004, 10:51 PM Like srode said, don't pay more than invoice. Then get the incentives on top of that unless you go with the 0% financing.
Usually everyone pays all those extra charges on the invoice price. I have heard of a couple people say they did not pay it, but I'm not sure if they were full of crap or what. Those fees are for avertising. All the local dealers contribute to the "fund" that pays for the TV and radio ads in that area.
I would not pay any more than invoice + the cost of the DVD. $2K sound a little expensive for the DVD but it all depends on what kind it is and how big the screen is.
Just remember, its the end of the model year and those guys really want to unload that truck. If you play your cards right and do some talking you might be able to get it under invoice.
Good luck!
Yea they have 3 red ones on the lot all 3 EXACTLY the same except for the one with the DVD player. It is an aftermarkey DVD with an 11" screen so its not the little 5" GM one. I am gonna take a chance and wait another week and see if it is still there. Closer to the end of the month and all I might get lucky.
Keep the info coming in guys. It REALLY does help newbies like me. :)
GMC2500HD 08-20-2004, 10:59 PM GM can pass on marketing fees to the dealership and they can pass them off to you but you do not have to pay for all of them.. My dealer tried this on me and I told them hell no... Plus I paid way back of invoice on my truck which stickered for $47,850, walked out for $37 and some change...
WOW GMC2500HD, thats a fantastic deal. So how do I get this guy to come down in price? Go to another dealer? Wait a bit longer in the month/year? Tell this guy he is asking to much?
UGH, this is so frustrating sometimes
Well I think he's spending too much for the '04, you could order an '05 for that. Or at least I've gotten prices real close to that for ordering an '05.
As far as what others have paid, that depends on the dealer and what area of the country you are in, as well as how bad you want the truck.
The rebates for the '04 Dmax's went away around here, no big deal since there aren't any to be found. It's not a buyer's market here right now, I've been pricing '05's and no one is talking very much. None have been aware of any incentives at this point for the '05's either.
I've not been on the web site since I tried to build one and couldn't get the web site to cooperate, so there may be something on incentives for the '05's and I just didn't see it. The incentives can also vary from region to region occasionally.
gardnerteam 08-21-2004, 12:07 AM My 05 is 500 over invoice, less anything GM has available for deals, plus got more than high wholesale for my 73,000 mile 02. I didn't trade it, but sold it for even more. Dealer has another 05 3500 HD CC LT LB 4X4 that just came in that can be probably be bought for the same 500 0ver. Mine possibly arrived today or next week. Price wasn't the big deal for me, but having a service manager that says run what you want as long as it does not DIRECTLY CAUSE the problem it is warranteed, and even then he is known for getting it taken care of under warrantee. Also diagnoses problem within an hour of vehicle arriving, and worked on in 24 hours or less by knowledgeable techs. SUPER SERVICE MANAGER and is worth a heck of a lot to me. I left a good dealership that after years adopted a very shi--y service policy of you pay for it unless you can prove warranty with a new service manager who was nice, but not worth a damn! I want GREAT SERVICE if I ever need it.
Dmax Tim 08-21-2004, 05:58 AM Don't forget if that is out-the-door price w/ tax than that isn't so bad.
Kanf, ask your dealer about GM 'in the driveway' price and see if it is lower.
If it is let me know and I can get u a # if u decide to buy.
Zeeb the western division got it's rebate cut the midwest is still 4000 on dmax.
For comparason: My truck sticker $44,500. Had leather and bedliner dealer installed and left having paid 42,200 out the door incl tax and all. I didnt know anyone there to help me get a deal, so im sure I paid a little too much.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

I've heard others say they had difficulty getting dealers to invoice in CA so it might be more difficult there. The truck is 1 year old now, that should give you an edge. I did not pay the marketing fees, I did pay the destination charge. Might want to see what you can do on an '05 before you go after last year's model. Do you know if the '04 is an LLY or LB7?
smshiver 08-21-2004, 07:45 PM I ordered my 2004 and here's what I paid:
$47,568.00 MSRP
$42,106.13 Invoice
$40,261.01 GMS (Wholesale to GM employee and actual cost to dealer if he/she doesn't have to floor the vehicle too long, which is what holdback is supposed to cover. My dealer had the truck for all of 16 hours.)
$42,950.00 What I paid. About 1.5% over invoice. I like my dealer and wasn't going to haggle over a few hundred bucks.
Dealer also usually gets an additional bonus from GM based on overall volume, which let's them make really good deals for bigger customers.
All info is to the best of my knowledge.
On edit: I believe I have every available option except extending camper mirrors and DVD.Edited by: smshiver
precision37 08-22-2004, 08:59 AM Price out an '05 at invoice(with the same options) and offer the dealer $5000.00 less than that price for the '04. You have nothing to lose, and might be supprised.
Xsta Z 28 08-24-2004, 10:02 AM www.kbb.com (http://www.kbb.com) is your freind on getting pretty accurate pricing to start your haggling with.
skoryaro2 08-24-2004, 11:21 AM Ask the dealer to see the Invoice and GMS price (make sure they show it to you and not just write it down for you). Negoatiate from the GMS and then subtract any rebates and add the sales tax and destination charge. BTW - I not paying any of the marketing fees - only the $850 destination charge.
Our neck of the woods has $1000.00 rebates or 3.9% for 5 years on '05's (sure wish I could have found an '04 I wanted)!

coyotekid 08-25-2004, 07:15 PM Ok, here's a question!
I was recently shopping at Dave Smith in Kellogg, ID and asked if they accepted the GM "In the Driveway" Certificates. When I was told "yes" I thought I was on my way to a good deal. When the salesman said that he would be happy to charge me $20 more than he would anyone else, I became confused. According to the sheet he showed me, the supplier pricing was actually $20 more than the "invoice price" they normally sell all their vehicles at! What gives here?
Also, can anyone tell me what GM Supplier Pricing should be on an '04 2500 HD 6.0 gas loaded LS extended cab short box 4X4? It includes virtually all options available with the LS except XR radio. The price quoted to me using the $5,000 rebate was right around $26,700. (This wasn't special supplier pricing.) Thanks!
Lightning 08-25-2004, 08:14 PM You should give my buddy a call who is a auto broker. I live in San Diego as well. I told him what truck I wanted and he had it drop shipped to my house on the car carrier. FedEx the paperwork and everything, I never even stepped foot in the dealer. Just told him what I wanted and he searched and found the exact truck. I paid near invoice. If you want his info, send me an email.
