It's great to see at least one manufacturer building a trail ready fullsize truck.

Four Wheeler mag states...

"Obviously, there are some hard-core off-highway minded engineers and management lurking the halls at Dodge for this vehicle to make production"

No diesel option available but it sure warrants a mention. This truck will go down as one of the last real STOCK off-road beasts.

Here are some of the highlights..

345hp Hemi

1.8" higher stance than stock Ram 2500 4x4 provided by revised springs

4:56 gears

11.5 axle shafts in 10.5 rear

Electronically actuated TracRite lockers.. front and rear

Electronically actuated sway bar disconnect

Longer and larger Bilstein high pressure monotube shocks

12,000 pound Warn winch... built in

Major undercarriage protection including fore-aft bars, stabilizer plate and fuel tank protection

BFG 285 AT's on Alcoa forged aluminum wheels

T-case with 2.73:1 low range

Idle bumped up 100 rpm to 750

Fan clutch engages at lower rpm

5-speed auto with higher tranny shift points

160 amp alternator and 750 amphour battery

655 RTI with swaybar disconnected and a stock 35 degree approach angle

I think it's cool that they are still doing things like this.Edited by: hoot

Needs the Cummins option though. However, the soon-to-be-available (supposedly)6.1 Hemi would also be fun in that truck though.

Also be nice if you coud get a stick in it. I wish all the manufacturers would support manual trannies nowadays. At least you can the the REAL diesel engine with a REAL tranny without losing a bunch of power.

That electronic sway bar disconnect is very trick. Ditto on the diesel.

I think it's truck stuff worth reporting regardless of brand.

How much extra are they charging for all the stuff listed above ?

At least their trying to build "the real thing", versus some manufactures who just do a half a$$ job and charge a fortune.

Looks like the same Dodge ram truck to me. Could have sworn there was a power wagon concept at a recent auto show that looked much better.

What exactly is the difference between it and a normal ram truck?

Off roaders insist on them or lower. This is a specialized truck. Not meant to generate huge sales. Sure a lot of people who don't put a tire in the dirt will scoff at this truck as not practical. With the 4.56 gears you can put some nice tires on it and still have decent power. What 3/4 ton truck out there comes stock with 285's, great looking Alcoa forged rims, electric lockers front and rear, 12,000 pound warn built in winch, electrically actuated stabilizer disconnect, loads of underbody protection, solid axles, factory lift.

I say YES... way to go Dodge. Defying the trend again with gutsy innovation. This ain't no Jeep. It's a big 3/4 ton pickup.

17 x 8

Bronco

The comment about the Rubicon was just to inform that DaimlerChrysler is already producing a rig that is completly geared torwads off road. This power ram will be there second vehicle targeted directly at the off road market.

The 17x8 rims are begging for some 315's. Wonder if they would fit a stock suspension?

The 35" tall tire would then cetainly justify the 4.56 gears.

hoot
08-22-2004, 03:27 PM
I have 315's on my truck. They fit with unmodified stock suspension with no issues. I only did the 2" leveling for looks.

Don't know for sure but I'll bet the wheels will fit. They do look pretty sweet. Matter of fact they probably fit a GM HD.Edited by: hoot

I do like it but it's hardly a trail ready rig.
It should come with 35's, no running boards, reg cab,and 4:1 lo range.
For the money you could build it much better.

Wickedsprint
08-22-2004, 07:51 PM
Again what the above said hoot..the wrangler rubicon will trounce that thing in the woods and won't require a helicopter when it gets stuck :) Chrysler already produces a stock offroad worthy vehicle..they actually never stopped with the jeep. The only reason that beast needs 4.56 gears is because of its lack of TQ...throw a cummins and a 6 speed in there and I'd be interested..but I would never buya dodge with an automatic..screw that...they have a horrible track record.

hoot
08-22-2004, 09:57 PM
I agree with the both of you... few if any factory full size pickup trucks were real trail vehicles.

But starting with a straight axle 4x4... adding the e=lockers and all the other stuff certainly makes for a decent off road pickup... not a rock crawler by professional standards but it'll outdo the framedraggers.

Here we go with the negatives again... Dodge automatics. Ok OK All Chrysler automatics are total junk. I can't believe they even sell any vehicles with automatic transmissions http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

Got 10,500 on mine and it hasn't had a quirk yet. How much longer do i have? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif

No idea...just saying since the NV5600 is such a badass trans I would have gotten that and will. I maintain what I say...I don't trust dodge automatics...I have seen too many fail..and ont he rams with alot more frequency than the fords. The E4OD on my psd was a pile of junk too.

Doesn't Dodge have a 7yr/100k mile warranty on the powertrain for their trucks? Sure beats the 3yr/36k mile Allison warranty. While I personally believe the Allison is a better tranny (5 spd vs 4 spd), Chrysler must have gotten most of the bugs worked out of theirs, otherwise they would not be sticking their financial necks out with the warranty.Edited by: OC_DMAX

hoot

I have 7 years 100,000 on the Cummins $500 deductable after 5 years.

7 years 70,000 miles on the the rest of the powertrain with $100 deductable after 3/36

Towing is covered.

Carefully reading over the "What's Not Covered" section indicates they only have a blanket "Warranty Void" if the odometer was tampered with.

The statement on performance alterations is...

"Performance or racing parts are considered to be non-Daimler/Chrysler parts. Repairs or adjustments caused by their use are not covered under your warranties"

In the end though, a warranty is only as good as the dealer's willingness to perform the service and the quality of service.

Yes there are some good aftermarket upgrades if you like to spend money. DTT is one of the popular ones.

http://www.dieseltrans.com/

Broker you're probably right but that goes for everything out there... I'm sure some buyers will intend to use some or all of it's features and even mod them more... just like some buyers install those features after buying one without them. There's also the cool factor of having a specially equipped vehicle.Edited by: hoot

<font ="post">Auburn Hills, Mich., Oct 14, 2004 - The all-new 2005
Dodge Ram Power Wagon is Four Wheeler Magazine’s 2005 "Pickup Truck of
the Year." After a rigorous, in-depth series of evaluations, the Dodge
Ram Power Wagon outperformed the competition in every driving
environment included in the test.

"The 2005 Dodge Ram Power
Wagon could well be the perfect full-size pickup truck," said Ken
Brubaker, senior editor, Four Wheeler. “It can effortlessly scamper up
rocky, off-camber terrain like a mountain goat, can tow up to 11,000
pounds, and seats six comfortably. Ultimately, the Dodge Ram Power
Wagon’s stunning capability earned it the top spot.”

With
best-in-class off-road performance, bold Dodge truck styling and HEMI®
power, the all-new 2005 Dodge Ram Power Wagon excelled in every
category of Four Wheeler’s evaluation: trail performance, mechanical
performance, highway performance, interior and exterior fit and finish.

“With
the all-new Dodge Ram Power Wagon, Dodge has established a benchmark,”
said Robin Stover, feature editor, Four Wheeler. “The Dodge Ram Power
Wagon is the first and only production pickup truck built to represent
the interests of four-wheel-drive consumers who want to own a truck
that can play as hard as it works. Combining electronic-locking front
and rear differentials, a class-exclusive disconnecting sway bar, a
custom-built Warn® 12,000 lb. winch and a factory warranty, Dodge has
an inarguable recipe for success among four-wheel-drive enthusiasts.”

Four
Wheeler conducted its evaluations in a variety of driving conditions,
which included mountain trails, desert sand and every type of terrain
in between. Editors noted that the Dodge Ram Power Wagon clearly stood
out in every driving environment tested.

“Earning the top spot
in Four Wheeler’s ‘Pickup Truck of the Year’ competition is a
tremendous accolade for the all-new 2005 Dodge Ram Power Wagon,” said
Darryl Jackson, Vice President, Dodge Marketing. “We set out to build a
best-in-class off-road production pickup truck beyond anything created
by the competition, designed to tackle any severe off-road work
condition imaginable. This award substantiates the Dodge Ram Power
Wagon as the most capable production pickup truck on the planet.”

Some
of the competitors for the 2005 Four Wheeler “Pickup Truck of the Year”
award included Ford F-250 Super Duty, Chevrolet Silverado gas-electric
hybrid, Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tacoma. The all-new 2005 Dodge Ram
Power Wagon’s win marks Dodge’s fifth in the competition since it was
established in 1989.

The all-new 2005 Dodge Ram Power Wagon is
the latest addition to the Dodge truck lineup, which continues to haul
the most leadership claims:

Dodge Ram 1500 with legendary HEMI power is the most powerful mass production light-duty pickup on the market
Dodge Ram SRT-10 is the Guinness Book of World Records’ fastest production pickup
Dodge Ram SRT-10 Quad Cab is the fastest, most powerful four-door pickup in the market
Dodge Ram Heavy Duty Cummins Turbo Diesel is the strongest pickup on the market with 610 lb.-ft. of class-dominating torque
Dodge Ram Power Wagon is the most capable off-road production pickup, geared for severe off-road work conditions

Complete test results and evaluations will be available in Four Wheeler’s January 2005 issue, on sale Nov. 23, 2004.

Looks like Dodge was going after the guys in the H1 & H2 market.

Put it up against the new H2 pickup and see what happens.

Dodge did a good job on this and did their homework on this truck.
