Anyone know the GM part# for this?

TC,

I don't have the GM PN but depending on what your planning to do, the Dmax oil filler cap is a standard size.. I bought a cap at Autozone for a GM 3.1 V6. This same cap fit's my Dmax. (I also fitted this cap with an AMSOIL swivel fitting for an OilBypass return).

Bill,

How do you like the swivel fitting. Do you have a PN or pics. I have to disconnect my JIC fitting to add oil so the swivel seems like the way to go.

Thanks for your help. I'm looking to use the cap for the return oil flow from my bypass filter. I was going to use an elbow and tap some threads into the cap however the idea of a swivel fitting would make more sense. Where did you find the swivel fitting? Also do you guys place any sort of extention tube past the cap and into the filler neck at all to eliminate any possible aeration of the return oil?

TC Dmax,

All I did was drill and tap the center of my cap. No ext. tube was needed as the oil flows slowly. It has been about 47,000 miles since it was installed. The cap is very tough and provides deep/strong threads that will not come loose. I also like the idea of the swivel fitting. I think I have pics of my cap in the link in my sig if you care to see how it looks. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

Tommy, TC,
I bought the Amsoil BP-89 swivel fitting and spare oil cap a few years ago the with intention of using to install a Baldwin B50 bypass filter on my 01 Malibu’s 3.1 V6. However I ended up using AC Delco Ultraguard Gold full flow filters (rated 8-10 microns at 98%) and never got around to installing the bypass .. I also since traded the car for an 04 Impala … still using the ultraguards… Someday I may use the swivel cap fitting on my dmax for the OilGuard’s return and get back to a Fumoto valve… The BP-89 is a nice fitting …. It’s a little stiff when turning but that’s probably a good thing as it looks like it has a good seal. Here is a link to AMSOIL’s bypass filter parts (http://www.amsoil.com/bypassfilters/partslist.htm) … page down to BP-89. And .. here are some pics of the cap with the swivel installed… The swivel fitting has 1/8 NPT threads and is shown with a #4 JIC to 1/8 NPT elbow… I just drilled and taped (3/8-24) the plastic cap then screwed the fitting into the cap... There is also a 3/8 jam nut on the fitting…

Bill this is perfect. I will order one ASAP. Should also come in handy to remove the cap while the engine is running to make sure that orifice is open. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Tommy,

Removing the cap with the engine running reminds me of a TDP post I read few years back. This fellow tried to add oil to his 6.5TD with the engine running. The 6.5 oil fill tube is located on the timing cover and needless to say he got an oil bath when the oil hit the chain ... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif ... So be carefull ... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
