Hey all, was hoping for some advice on what happens when you remove a lift kit.

i.e. I am looking at buying a 2004 HD2500 from a local dealer here in SoCal. They have added a 6" lift and bigger tires. Looks great but I am not sure I would keep the lift because I eventually want to get a ToyHauler and I am afraid it will negatively effect my towing capacity.

Anywho, what happens if I end up taking the lift kit off OR even have the dealer do it? The truck has everything I want on it as far as options, color etc. except for the lift kit. (again it looks great but will i keep it?)

The only thing I know about the kit is that it was installed by TAG Motorsports in the San Diego area. The dealer owns the company and lifts several of the GMC trucks they offer for sale.

Any help would be great. Anyone have experience with TAG Motorsports? Know what kind of lifts they use? Should I just look for a truck that has NOT been lifted and not worry about what damage may be done or has been done to a lifted truck?

I am a total newb when it comes to diesels and lifts and such.

Thanks again for a great site, hope you guys can shed some light for me.

My thoughts here..

Lifted trucks of this vareity are very hard to have the lift UNinstalled well. Depending on the type of lift used, it may actually be impossible to return to stock without buying many new (original) parts.

If you don't want the lift, find another truck IMHO..

The bracket will be cut off the front of the differential and the brackets that the a-arms bolt to will be cut off alsohttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif

you would need to do some welding and a new front diff.to put it back to stock

In addition to the other issues, a lift and big tires REALLY accelerate the wear on the steering components and ball joints on these trucks. If you don't want a lifted truck, keep shopping.

FWIW, you will spend more if you get the truck to get it to ride right again and back to stock. If the dealer will not pay to have the kit removed and then warranty the truck for ANY AND ALL DEFECTS after the sale (GET THAT IN WRITING), then I would move along until you find something else. Trust I have had 2 lifted trucks that have been put back to stock and they were both never the same again. One would not handle right and always pulled and the other just had drive line issues... Think twice before you buy....

Don't do it - find another one.

IOW, I agree. :)
