: Power VS Tire Size Question???

Been running BFG 295's on stock wheels since I bought my truck. Really an exceptional ride but the tires do wear quickly due to the narrow wheel size.

After reading numerous posts it appears that dropping down a size to 285's would give me more power to the ground and easier on the Allison with the smaller dia. tire and the Hot Juice/Attitude. I'm sure the 285's would also wear better with the stock wheels.

Any ideas?

285 should be better,I thought the 285 were a bit over sized for stock wheels.

I wore out some 285 on stock wheels then went to the wider H2 and 285 tires.

For towing the 285 will be better.

There isnt much of a difference between the two on height and width. The 285 will be a bit narrower and a bit shorter. Adjusting your air pressure will help with tire wear. I run my 285's at 45psi all the way around. When towing I air the rears up but thats it.

Thanks guys,

I only get around 30k out of the 295's on the stk. wheels running 50 front and 35 rear (Juice doesn't help). Run the same pressure on my Tahoe with 285's and stk. wheels and get 75k out of a set.

Even though I know there isn't much difference between the two, I know I read somewhere here trucks were getting better times and mileage with the 285's.

A couple of differences, your Tahoe has 7" wide factory rims with 285 wide tires, you truck has 6.5" wide factory rims with 295mm wide tires. Plus your truck probably weighs more so they arent going to last as long.

Try a set of 255/85R16's, they are as tall as the 285's but not as wide. A very good fit for the stock wheels and they look sharp, too.
