I spent several hours on the phone today with Chevy Customer Service checking to see if my truck was covered/involved in the Hydro-Boost recall #04004.


After several minutes of checking my VIN they came back and said my dmax was not one of the affected vehicles.


BUT they said the computer did show a new recall #040471 and that it did apply to my truck. Thats where it got interesting, they look, they call, they call some more and all the while I get to listen to that fine "on hold" jam.http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif


After about 30 minutes the advisor comes back with the profound news, "we don't know" Said it was a new recall and they didn't have all the info on it, COULD SOME TECH CHECK AND SEE WHAT IS COVERED UNDER RECALL #040471.


BTW & FWIW they said the recall on the tail gate straps would start in earnest on 9-1-04.

The number you posted has too many digits. It should only have 5. Check again and let us know or post the last 8 of the VIN.

They said it was just issued and might not have all the info attached to it yet. What I don't understand is how could they tell me it applies to my truck and they don't know what it applies to!

A seal on the Hydro Boost relief valve could be damaged by an out of spec. bore on the vehicles posted above. The booster is repaired in about 10 minutes with a new valve kit.

What about the last recall number #04471??

The number doesn't come up but I found one today that was listed as a campaign by a vin check. I can't remember the number but it was just a request for some specific trucks for engineering info. If you give me your vin I can see what comes up.

Look at the chart under 04 GMC Sierra, if the last 8 of your vin# falls in any of the ranges your truck is included in the campaign.

Oh, right above your brake master cylinder on the brake booster there is a small valve that screws into the booster. That is the relief valve.

Thanks. I feel stupid for not knowing what that was. I guess I've never had to do anything to brakes. I did notice there was a little fluid on the top of my reservoir, but it was still 'full,' but my number wasn't part of the recall. . . oh,well.

The campaign does come up under your vin. It's only an engineering investigation. They want 10 2004 LB7s with high injector return rates. They probably have them already. I wouldn't worry about it.

Been reading about the RECALLS and i am now wondering what else i have missed other than the letter i never rec'd about the injectors and never heard of the tailgate issue until now.
