Does anyone notice their trans temps getting up to 125-150 degrees after about 10-15 minutes of high idle from a cold start? I never noticed this on my '05 but the '06 the trans is warming up. Is this normal? My '05 seemed to take forever to warm up in the cold.

I sure haven't noticed mine warming up like that, if anything it stays cooler than I expected. It takes a while before my gauge shows it's warming up at all. My ScanGauge II tells me the engine temperature gauge is pretty accurate but I have no way of checking the gauge for the transmission temp.

Mine does the same. you can actually hear something in the trans kick in and puts a load on the motor after the high idle has been on for a couple mins. it gets the trans and the motor at lot warmer a lot quicker. also runs about 2-3 lbs of boost while it is doing this. i live out of town and the truck hits the highway about 1 mile from home, i baby the truck for the first 5 miles slowly increasing speed over the 5 miles to warm everything up. i have noticed that the trans is much happier with heat than if the high idle doesnt kick in and warm it up. if it is still cold when i hit the highway, it shifts lousy and has a shutter at 60mph til the trans warms up. but if the trans has temp, it shifts good and doesnt "shutter".

I notice mine does the same, although the temp needle just moves a little.

And not to get too off topic, but is that shutter normal when not totally warmed up? I kind of get the same deal when I leave from my work. I have about 1km (.6mi) before I hit the highway. Once on the highway it never seems to fail, when I hit around 110km (68mi/hr) it shutters very lightly for a little bit. Probably not even a mile and it's gone. At first I thought it was that stretch of road, but I soon discovered it wasn't.

Mine thumps too when going in and out of high idle. Glad to hear someone else has noticed this. Thanks for the feedback.

Mine does the same thing, I was really surprised how the trans warms up when the elevated idle kicks in, I was wondering what all the funny noises were after the high idle kicks in with my straight pipe exhaust, it sounds bad ^%$, it sounds like a jet engine taking off! :ro)

Trans guage barley moves when it kicks off high idle, engine warms up well though.

Same here. Usually run the high idle about 10 min. before taking off and the tranny is usually warm a few miles from the house. jk

I see about 175* engine temp and 125* tranny temp after 10-12 minutes of high idle at 20* temps here in MI right now. Tranny gets warmer in those ten minutes of high idle then if I drive 19 miles to work at 55MPH :D

Well maybe it will get down to 0* or below so those with new block heater cords can actually have them come on for a few minutes a day before temp go's above 0* :rolleyes:

I was on the road today and the outside temp has been running 25F-30F. My transmission temperature gauge never got over 125F, is that normal? Even on a warm day it hardly ever gets over 150F, thats with no trailer, just running empty. First time I've ever had a gauge for trans temperature.

Here is a link for the allison trany that explains how they help to heat up. I believe it is the last page. Called "Heater performance mode" I believe. Hope this helps. It should be normal.

Yes-perfectly normal--all 3 of mine behaved the same.

Yeah,I do too---being in the excavating biz doing sewer and septic work you have to have a keen sense of humor--my clients expect it---one of my Eagle scouts from my troop who's horizontally challenged{read5'5'',300 lbs.} is my designated unofficial septic tester on all new systems.If it's still working after Septic Joe has his turn on the seat,it's a good to go system.:D He loves it--all in good fun.My XXX wife,who's a realtor, even stole that saying relating it to a sale of a house--and like most X's,that's not all she stole!!! Someday..................:)
