I'm having an issue which I believe to be the throttle but I'm not sure.

Here is the scenario. Motoring along at any speed, let off the throttle (maybe to go around a corner on a country road for example) step on the throttle...nothing.

Step a little further on the throttle, nothing. Step WAY DOWN on the throttle and WHAMMO...lots of power. Now throttle is back to normal.

Or...have cruise set. All is well. Hit brakes to slow down. Push on pedal to accelerate...again nothing. Push pedal way down again and get response.

If after cancelling the cruise I instead hit "Resume" everything works just fine so I really think it's related to the throttle.

At first it happens every once in a while and then gets progressively worse. If I shut the truck off and restart it, it's as if something is "reset" and everything is back to normal.

Whut up dawg?

How do you test the accelerator pedal?

I've seen a post about cleaning the contacts in the APP for this type of malfunction. Hope some one chimes in that knows how. Have you checked for codes? Good luck

best way to test is with a scanner that can read all 3 potentiometers in the pedal.

You're probably right. But...since I's ain't gots one...I'm outta luck.

If they are pots then they should have a max/mid/min resistance reading. Anybody know what they are?

The throttle position sensor is similar to that sweet brake light switch down on the pedal....similar because you dont they arent working until its too late. It should throw a code, but the TPS has been known to do several odd things when its goes....either high rev which is dangerous...or poor pedal response. And everything in between. I would imagine it is a circuit that can be checked with a volt meter.

here ya go, I have my trusty GM service manual here, and I'll give you what you can do to test without a scanner.

9 wires to the APP

Yel/Blk, Wht/Blk, and Tan should always be about 4.75-5 vdc when key is on. 5v is fed from the PCM.

Gry, Brn, Ppl should always be grounded, ground is also fed from the PCM

Dk Blu is APP1 feed, should range from .45-.95 Vdc, when pressing pedal in and out

Lt Blu is APP2 feed, should range from 4.0-4.5 Vdc, when pressing pedal in and out

Dk Grn is APP3 feed, should range from 3.6-4.1 Vdc, when pressing pedal in and out

Test with ignition on, engine off.

Thanks Scrufdog!

That's exactly what I was looking for. I'll whip out the volt meter and see what's cookin'.

check yet?

I'm a lazy cuss...

It quit doing it so I haven't jacked with it.

But I have the desired readings printed out and above the visor should it even attempt to treat me that way again. Yank my chain and I'll pull it's wires!
