I talked to Texas Red Wagon about his and he said it took him all day, but he did it the right way.. Do not know anymore about it, but I am interested myself as I plan on doing this sooner or later....

It's not an all day job. It took me about 4 hours to complete. And I took my time. It's well worth that fuzzy feeling you get knowing that you have the cleanest fuel in town going to your injectors! Some people drop the tank, some don't. I just dropped my drive shaft and had access to the fuel line from there. Again its well worth the effort. Good luck

it is pretty easy, just a little time consuming.

Whatever you do, put the filter head on the bracket BEFORE you mount the bracket to the truck.

I didn't drop my tank, and I did the whole thing by myself.

Good luck

Mike, did you drop the driveshaft? I've been wanting to do this mod for a long time, but dread dropping the driveshaft or the tank. Do you have small hands (no, that's not a joke)?

Thanks,
Dennis

Dennis,

on the LLY the sender is moved off to the side of the tank. this makes getting to the fittings easier. IMHO the lly is the easiest dmax to install a nicktane on. takes me about 1.5 hours to install if i take my time.. you don't need to drop the tank or driveshaft.. Dmaxallitech has installed several and perhaps you can get his take on it as well.

Nick,

Thanks for the response, I think I'll just do it, but if Eric wants to chime in, I'd be more than happy to hear what he says. If I get the next duty station I think I'm going to get, I can get SCIII installed by him, it's less than a day's drive away. Keeping my fingers crossed on that one.

I thought I held the record for the longest install time, but Nick told me different, I took 6 hours, no cursing or swearing just took my time.

Put the rear of the truck on some 8" ramps, that gives you lots of room to sit up. If your skinny you can fit between the driveshaft and exhaust. wear safty glasses!, keep mouth closed while working on your back.

I did this in my driveway, great product, I stunk like diesel, and ended up with rustproofing in my hair, but it sure feels good knowing the fuel is clean.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif

I did mine in about 3-4 hours, taking my time. No swearing was used during the install!

Nick is right, the LLY-equipped trucks have the fuel sender located more towards the edge of the tank, towards the drive shaft. I did not drop the tank or the driveshaft and my driveshaft is one of the massive aluminum types. Plenty of room.

The ONLY tough part was getting the line connected to the connection between the front of the tank and the fuel cooler. It is just a tight squeeze, that's all.

This mod is well worth knowing that youre fuel is clean and polished!

I'm not sure it's possible for me to install anything without swearing at least once. Sometimes I'll throw one out there before I even start just to make sure everything goes smooth. That way all the parts and tools and stuff know who's boss.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Dennis,

I didn't drop the driveshaft. I didn't unbolt anything on the truck to do the install. I have big hands (and feet http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif) im 6'2" and 250#.

I sat under the truck for most of the install.

Access seems pretty easy on the LLY. When we did the install on my dad's 02 3500 we jacked up the driver's side of the bed to do the install.

Good luck.

After having installed a few kits on LB7 trucks before I got my hoist, I had it somewhat figured out, put the truck up on all corners on ramps, block tires, set e brake and pull driveshaft. mount assembled head/fittings/bracket to box floor, then remove tank strap bolts and lower tank slowly, didnt disconnect anything else. that gave me room to work comfortably. Then I did an LLY, it was a c/c Dooly and I was thinking, oh chit. Crawled under the truck after mounting head/bracket and just about started singing!!! Could get right to the tank lines with out even removing driveshaft.... Now I am spoiled, I kick the hoist legs under it and stand under them now.. I think on average I spend about an hour and a half on the install/bleed.

Two hours tops, and I dropped the tank. I can't see where you can get up in there without doing it--but it ain't no big deal! If I can do it anyone can! Jack up the truck high enough that you can sit up under it, mount the filter head to the bracket, THEN mount the bracket, install the hose wrap, BEFORE you install the hose, and finally fill the CAT filter with fuel then screw it on--no priming, no bleeding, start it and go, knowin you got some damn clean fuel!

all but prefilling the filter....dump dirty fuel into the clean side of a filter? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

Technique on bleeding will lessen the bleed time to not much more then just replaceing factory filterhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

Thanks for all the info guys.

Mike,

You know what they say about a man with big hands? Well, he wears big gloves! We are about the same size so that's perfect, although I've slimmed down from 250 to about 210 (South Beach, it really works).

Thanks,
Dennis
