Just registered today here and bought a 04' 2500HD SLT CC/SB in Carbon Metallic. I'm semi new to diesel ownership, and previously owned a 1500HD that was traded in. I am taking off the oem tires soon and will replace them with 265's. Had 285's on the 1500HD and had cranked the t-bars up to accomodate, but this time I'm leaving the ride alone. 1500 rode like,,,,,,,,,,,,,, well you know! I look forward to learning more in this forum about my new truck.

Be advised that if you go oversized tires and have driveline problem (especailly tranny) GM will void warranty. You do not want to go to shop with them on.

Welcome to the forum.

Refferance tires.Void warranty? That is a bit extreme.I invite any documented proof of warranty VOIDING over tire size alone.Cranking torsion bars is well established as a must do when adding weight such as a plow on a 2500HD.That's why there is an adjustment, front end alighments are always recomended after adjustment.

GM will or can opt not to diagnose drivetrain (Allison) issues without OE tires installed or equivelent in size.

There is a TSB in the TSB forum that relates please view at your leasure.IMO I would ,as I have ,retain OE rims and tires for possible warranty issues.Once your out of the 3 yr 36,000 then it is a non issue.

My dealer hasn't given me any problems to date!

I test drove a 1500 HD and a 2500 HD back to back and over the same road. The 2500 rode better. Maybe the difference in weight. Welcome to the site Doug. Lots o information, good people with a sense of humour.
At the top on the pages, there is a search feature. Plug in your topic, and you will find usually lots of info.

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

I like the look I achieved with the bars cranked up and the 285's on the 1500HD, but I am driving this truck for business and I really got sick of the ride in the old truck. It would be nice to level out the stance without sacrificing ride quality.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

I always try to use the search before I post a question on any board, thanks for the tip though.

If you're not towing/carrying alot of weight, you could switch your tires to load C range. I did. Ride is alot better. I tow a 30' fifth. Pin weight is supposed to be 1300 lbs. Back tires squat a bit. But all is good. Ride, handling.

I would not switch to load range C tires. The weight rating isnt usually enough for our trucks. I have put P rated tires on a Dmax before at work and they will be wore out in about 20-25k instead of 40-50k. They arent made for the weight.

I am running 265 dunlop radial rover rt's Have 3/4" of a t bar crank but it wasnt necisarry. They are load range d(3k I believe) It rides well IMO even with the stock shocks. Air pressure is a bit under 60 in the front and 50 in the back IIRC.

Sonman just has a hard on against tires that are any bigger than you would find on a gocart, dont mind him. They can opt to not diagnosis but I and many have had 0 problems(took mine in for a NSBU switch) Dealer commented on how nice my tires looked and good my exhaust sounded. Varys with dealer, might be wise to feel em out.

Welcome BTW.....we can be a pretty bad influence, youll be looking at cranking up the power and hunting for mustangs before too long if you listen to ushttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

Ratlover....I will be putting on a set of Yokohama's tomorrow, 265's load range D. I have had them on other trucks and have had good luck mileage wise and have a hookup on them.

Love the power it makes stock, will be interested to see what a tune will do to it!!!

I am a rep for a few lines of diesel parts, mostly high performance auto though. I will have to sample a few of the parts I rep on the truck for business purposes.
