ok, i need a simple anwser would i be ok with adding a chp to my truck without making any more mods (besides a K&N filter)

my truck will run good enough for me now but all im wantin is a little more power and maybe a little more blacksmoke (im still a teenager if that helps u understand lol)

hell if you want smoke just unhook a line on your wastegate system

when mine was bad, i sure made my buddy think i had a chip

chip alone is a lot of money for a small gain and lots of black smoke. Considered the optic tweak yet?

In the end the choice is really where you want to put your money. yeah you can run that chip, but with the same dollars you can probably find a salvaged intercooler (cummins, powerstroke) and the chip option is still there, only now you can handle the heat all that fuel is going to make. Don't like the charge air or having to plump it? make a water to air. I'm positive a person with access to a welder or even a riveter can make an effective water to air for around $120 in parts.

Optic 'Tweak' & Dual Breather 'Miracle.

Good for 75 Tire smokin', under 8 sec. 0-60, Thoroughbreds.

Kick Ass.

I agree about the breather thing, but the Optical Sensor Offset is workable if tailored to the specific vehicle, and other required areas are addressed - some of which cannot be with a simple mechanical adjustment.

What can cause problems is that the DS4 has a constant beginning, variable ending injection cycle - that variable ending can give some trucks fits with throttle position sensor input, others maybe none, some with idle problems, others maybe none.

At idle PCM can vary injection to each cylinder, based on inertial differences of the hi res output, to maintain idle quality for varying conditions - ac on needs more fuel than ac off, trans in any selected gear range needs more fuel than in Neutral, alternator at high charge, fan clutch kicks in, etc.

Then, there is the guy that thinks if 2 ounces is good, 10 ounces gots to be better, so he doesn't limit adjustment to initial improvement range of ~1mm. Instant problems.

When it works, there is still limited Boost level to overcome, as more fuel needs more Boost.

There is still auto trans shift quality to overcome, as more power needs more line pressure.

The lock-up TCC is Duty-cycle controlled, and as more power without increased lockup causes oil temperature to climb, PCM control needs to be modified.

Big springs don't work here, folks.

Enter the modern 'chip' or 're-flash' - it is a package upgrade of fuel, Boost, trans shifting points and firmness, Tcc lockup points - the works.

The programmers are no longer just hackers, having learned what works and what does not, what to tweak and what to adjust to enhance that tweak.

The chips are a package of upgrades, some not available anywhere.

The adjustment alters the fuel rate across the board, including the rate at idle, necessitating the FSD resistor value change - the chip alters the fuel curves, and much more.

Be interesting to see the adjustment combined with some chip corrections and enhancements.Edited by: gmctd
