<DIV>Has anyone successively replaced the serpentine belt when the vacuum pump was removed from a 1997 6.5 TD. I going to remove mine and would like to have the correct parts in had when I start.</DIV>

Just get one 2" shorter.

Do you have a part# on that belt?

no, but look up your stock belt number and go from there. An auto parts guy should be able to read the stock number and know which one is 2" shorter.

napa part #060990

this is what i ended up with on my 97

at first it looks too short, but after it stretches, it is the right one, two inches shorter

Is there a real beneift in disconecting your vacuum pump?

Mine has a Dayco 5061010 on it. (I think it used a 5061020 with the vacuum pump)

Does a '95 use a different belt than a '96+?

whatnot: should be the same

the only reason i removed my pump was because i don't use it for a jake brake or for the wastegate since i have a turbomaster. one less thing to have to worry about seizin up and wreckin the belt. my vaccum pump still works fine if anybody needs one.........

That is the same reason I took mine off. My brother had his freeze up and bust the belt. He was on the interstate and had to get off. A few weeks later the head gaskets blew. Might have been from driving those few minutes without the waterpump.

Did you notice any difference in noise at idle? I think that mine was making almost as much noise as the engine. (was only about a year old and still working fine)

Is the Turbo waste gate the ONLY need for a vacuum pump on a stock 6.5? That is a little ridiculous, i'd think the waste gate could be actuated by a different means - worked by something (mechanical, fluid, pressure, etc) already present on the engine . . .

In L56 also used for EGR system, but on L65 WG actuation is about it TM does this using a spring. Some contend better performance with vac control is better on OBD II than a mech spring, possibly I have both still drawing my own conclusions.

I'm not ready to commit one way or the other myself, I get more boost easier with vac control, can get same boost with a TM hogged all the way down, not sure back pressure in turbo from either control set for max boost is a good thing, still gathering data myself.

Yes, it could but could the computer modulate it sucessfully enough to call it an improvement.

If your wg isn't closing you'd call the turbomaster an improvement, but I mean a working wg vac system.

ask for belt for a 1993 6.5TD as they didn't have the pump, fits my 1995 great.

be careful where you go, both napa and autozone have the same belt number for every single 6.5 in the computer.

They just don't know how to look it up.

You can go to http://www.napaonline.com and do it yourself. You can also use the number I posted above in the non-Napa search box.

It shows that 1993 without AC used the same belt as the 1994+ according to the Napa website.

I am assuming that the 1010 at the end of the number is the length. If so, if might be too long for the 1996 and newer vehicles because the number you posted above ends with 0990.

Ok, after looking at the Napa site some more, I think I figured it out.

I just looked up a 1997 and it shows the same belt as the 1993.

I would assume you would need a Napa part# PBH4061000 or PBH4060990 like posted above it you can make it fit but seems like it would be a little short.

(1994 and 1995 need the PBH4061010 belt)
