I’m doing my first diesel conversion, so I have some newbie questions.
I will be installing a GM 6.2 diesel in my Toyota Land Cruiser in the near future. I’m attempting to plan out my fuel system. I need some recommendations on fuel filters/housings, what would be common cheap easy to get filters in the US and a good source to get the mount/housing from. I didn’t like the looks of the GM filter setup on my 82 Chevy donor truck.
I’ve seen it advised to go with two filters, a 10 micron first and 2 micron 2nd. I won’t need a heater because I’m in Florida.

Also I need a recommendation where to place the filters. I plan on using the 6.2’s mech lift pump that’s on the engine. So should the filters be before the lift pump or after and have the pump push the fuel through instead of sucking it through?

I’ve noticed most North American diesels don’t have a priming pump for emergencies. I thought about adding an electric pump, but for simplicity I might go with a hand pump.
Has anyone tried using a squeeze pump like what’s used on outboard boat engines that’s usually in line on the gas line?

Any advice appreciated!

I would suggest a RACOR fuel filter/water seperator system. It has a hand primer and a drainable see thru water catch bowl. It can be use on either suction or pressure side depending on the filter you use. I had one on my 85 6.2L chevy and it worked great. I would suggest using it on the suction side of your lift pump because if your filter gets full of water or dirt the engine will quit but on the presure side it will force contaminated fuel thru possibly causing exspensive fuel system damage.

You might see about getting your hands on the OEM filter and Intake manifold and supply pump/lines off a 6.5 and updating that to your engine. 92-04 6.5s all have the same setup, and I think it might be your easiest option. I prefer electric lift pumps, less problems with drawing air or leaking fuel, and you can hear it running. This would also allow you to run the readily available 6.5 filters.

Go with TDGs idea of a 6.5 system, it has a 5 micron filter and heater in the bowl, what part of Fla you in, I'm in MS and when I go to my hunting camp 80 mi north of Mobile Al in the winter the heating element in the bowl is handy, but I would also run a 10 or 20 micron Racor filter/water element prior to the lift pump, I run that set up on mine, also Racor has a heater option for it's filter set up as well.
