I just wanted to share this information....

I just purchased a new GMC in Fire Red with black flares and I want to paint the flares body color but the black ABS flares are a pain to prep so I started searching for painted flares, GM wants $180 each for the paintable flares, I ordered a complete set from Fender World on Ebay for $150
These are supposed to be new flares with paint defects.

I'll have the flares by the weekend and will report back, he had about a dozen sets listed, here's the link if anyones interested.

I'm also ordering a set of painted door handles from my dealer and will paint the tailgate handle when I have the flares painted.

That's pretty much what I did and it worked out good...

You might check the classifieds here though, a few guys were selling white ones a while ago...

Steve,

What are you going to do with your black flares?

Dan,

If all works out well and I'm satisified with the look with the painted flares I will sell the black flares.

You've got "first dibs" if your interested, there are also several sets of black flares on e-bay for good prices as well.

Please keep us posted. I am on the verge of ordering a red '05 GMC and want to do the same thing and had already looked at those on ebay.

What is the price from the dealer for the door handles? I presume that you order them already painted to match, right?

glilja,

Yes, you can get the handles already painted, my dealer is confirming the right part numbers for my color, looks like the price will be $32.35 ea.

Yes they will be solid red, The Escalade handles have never been produced in Fire (or Victory) Red.
however you could swap out the chrome handle from the Escalade handle.

Hey Steve,

Those flares don't look red...so I guess you are just going to paint them right? And would you mind listing the part # for those door handles?

Yes, I'm going to have them painted (they are not avaliable in Red) They actually came in 4 different colors with several scuffs but they will smooth out and paint up fine.

I'll be happy to post the part numbers once I get them.

I take it the $180 from GM is for a primed, non painted fender? Did you happen to get a price for them painted? Just curious.

The fender flares are not available painted Red, I'm not sure if you can get them in the GM factory colors that come painted on the trucks (Dark Grey, White, Green, Pewter)

I got mine off ebay and did the same thing. The only thing is that they must have been off a half ton. If you notice the front of the front flare is about 3/8" short of the bottom of the fender. I also bought escalade door handles off ebay and had them painted at the same time as the flares. This is a horrible picture, but you'll see what it will look like.

I'll try to get a better picture to post. I've also removed the grill guard and bug deflector, and painted the bowtie and grill surround red.
