: Suncoast install in my area???

I live in Alaska and have been reserching the types of transmission build ups for the Allison 1000. I like the Suncoast for keeping things simple and not needing extra parts to help it along.

Does anyone know of an installer or dealer in the Anchorage, Alaska area? I read the post that quotes the install at $3500 with everything. If I can get this done up here for that price I would be on the phone making reservations.

I have toyed with the idea of odering a complete rebuilt level III and having it sent up here, but I would thinik shipping would be outragious. And I have only installed one 400 turbo in my old truck and never tore into a transmission, so I don't feel to confident in rebuilding it on my own.

Thanks.

In all seriousness the most difficult part and the part that required the most planning and tools that the general guy may not have was the removal and replacemnt. The innards are actually pretty easy and fun. And the only hang up with the removal and replacemnt is the fact the trany weights a freaking ton! 350# or so. A pit or a lift and a good trany jack is a must imo but other than that its all regular joe blow kinda tools.

or the stage 3 can be done in a day easy by a expereiced guy. make a road trip down to see Mike L, I'm sure he would give you a disscount for driving across another contry just to see him, or see if Eric wants to pack up the family in the portable Ritz he calls a trailer and come visit ya.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif

I believe Tony paid a shop to do the R&R for him and he did the rebuild of the trans. Another option that dosnt involve a few tousand mileshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

I paid $350 to have a local Dealership R&R the tranny.

It was money well spent as they have the lift, HD transmission jack and I didn't have to do it on my back with a floor jack in my driveway.

The tear down and rebuild was not as involved as I thought. Having the Transgo Book and the Instructions from Suncoast made it easier.

As long as you double check the install and tolerances I think you will be fine..............http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif

I got away with paying just under $3000 with the R&R, SC-LIII Kit and PML Pan.

If you have mechanical ability and a way to get it out and on a bench then you should be OK doing it yourself...........http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Hey thanks guys. I've got a hand full of tools that may work for this job.

When you had a shop R&R it for you did you just leave your truck there untill you the tranny ready to go back in?

Yes,

I will admit a DODGE Dealership pulled the tranny.............http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Shocked.gif

They are close to my house and pulled it on a Friday afternoon so my truck sat locked inside the bay all weekend till I gave them the transmission back first thing Monday morning to reinstall.

Joe, check with Wolverine, he is from Owego as well. He come out my way in Mayish for his... its a long trip, but he dont regret it. Also could check with Joe @ Suncoast and he should be able to refer you to a local shop that deals his stuff as well

the transgo is pretty much a shift kit.

what he said^.....most upgradeds are the shift kit and a new converter, some get into different clutches and the like. ATS does things a completely different way. The heart of a suncoast kit though is the transgo shift kithttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

Heres a link to locating certified Allison parts/service/repair facilities in any area. http://www.vicinity.com/allisontrans/startprx.hm.

I found one that will do a R&R for $250. Not bad considering the cost of a injury. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Thanks to all for the replies,

This next question is sort of up in the air.

It says they warrenty the tranny and parts for 24 months and unlimited miles. Do any of you see this being in issue with how much power you are putting to the tranny?

I think the standard warrenty for the Allison from GM was 3 years and 36,000 miles. I don't think the extended warrenty covered the tranny.

I also talked to a local Allison dist. up here and they said they would do any work for me if needed but that any after market work done that changes it's charactoristics would void the warrenty. I took delivery of my truck on January of 2002 and I only have approx 13,000 miles.

Have any of you with upgraded trannies taken your truck in to a GM dealer to have warrenty work done and have been denied due to the different tranny under there?
