The new flywheel is still dual mass, but an enhanced design that should last more than 100,000 miles (before the flywheel rattles). The changes consist of better coatings on friction surfaces.
With the old flywheel the coating was being worn off a washer between the two flywheel halves (from clutch release bearing load). Once this coating is worn off (which can occur at in under 10,000 miles) a higher level of friction is created whenever the two flywheel halves are pressed together. This causes the flywheel halves to lock up which is why you can feel engine vibration when pressing the pedal in part way (the two halves rubbing together transmit engine vibration). The coating on the washer in the new flywheel is supposed to last substantially longer -- well over 100,000 miles.
Full production should start in a couple of weeks at which time the new flywheel will be available.
I do not believe that the new flywheel will handle any more power than the old one, but it shouldn't develop the rattle either. Hard to say what it will do if you manage to spin it in half. If you BOMB your truck it is probably best to switch to solid flywheel.
