I just bought an '06 LBZ 4x4 two weeks ago and I love it. I do have a problem and a question, though. The check engine light has already come on :( It is used w/ 17K but is GM certified. Bummer. I also heard from a friend that the Duramax does not like it to be left idling. Is extended idling harmful? Should I turn the vehicle off and restart it similarly to a gas engine or is that harmful as well? Why do diesel owners let theirs idle rather than turn them off (for 20 to 30 min periods)? Sorry about being such a newb

Congrats on the new truck. The light sucks but GM will take care of it. I leave mine running all the time, habit i guess. Never had any problems, nice that the truck is either warm or cold when you want it to be before hitting the road. Leaving it running would save on the batteries and starter over the long run, especially if you only stop somewhere often for short periods of time. Just my opinion.

The service repairman at the dealer said it was the EGR's or something along those lines, but didn't go into depth and I don't already know what they are. Thankfully, all will be a free fix and he verified that my glow plug recall had already been fixed. More details after having the part come in and service done next weekend.

Already had my EGR replaced along with the reprogram. Found out about the reprogram this past spring from this web site before my dealer even knew it was a recall. My HD was blowing alot of smoke at half to WOT and would surge at highway speeds. SES light finally came on and it turned out to be the EGR valve. Dealer replaced it and i have had no other problems other than severe tire wear in the rear, i suspect it to be a foot to throttle issue. Still working on that.
