My truck has the 7 way spade or blade "RV" style wiring warness. The previous owner pulled a fifth wheel RV and had brake setup that he cut out.

I am hooking up a prodigy controller and setting up to go get a gooseneck flat bed trailer in the morning. I bought an adapter for to go to the std round pin 6 way plug on the GN.

But according to etrailer dot com

" NOTE The black (12V) and Blue (Elec Brakes) may be reversed to suit trailer. Horse trailsers may use the center pin for 12v hot lead, RV trilers use the center pin for electric brakes "

I assume a Flat Bed Gooseneck would be wired like a horse trailer???

I bought the plug at Tractor supply and its wired for RV with brakes on center pin.

Can I just hook up and to check compatibility. Or will something short if its wired wrong. How else to check?

I have a DMM and can probe the pins on the trailer but don't know what to expect from the different slots. For what its worth the trailer is older ~ 1999 or 1996 and doesn't have a battery/break away yet. The owner said it was mfg before mandate for breakaway safety brake. Thats what I will doing Saturday afternoon when I get it home - installing a breakaway kit.

If the 12v and brake are reversed you can hook up and check the only thing that will happen is the brake magnets will have full 12v to them and will lock if you move it

FYI our horse trailers use the center pin for 12v.

I am assuming you bought the 7 to 6 adaptor that has 2 interchangeable spade connectors. This is assuming that your trailer brakes are in working condition. If so, hook up and pull forward. If the brakes are locked up, reverse the 2 wires in the adaptor. If you pull forward and nothing happens until you manually energize your brake controller, every thing is fine.

I have the same problem at work. Unfortunately, the boss won't let me change all the plugs to 7-way. That would solve all my problems. It might solve yours in the long run.

Thanks.

Yes you could take apart the adapter and switch these two pins.

I switched it since it seemed odds were that the the GN flat bed would have brakes at the 11 O'clock postion & 12V at center. And it worked fine.

Going to tow my old Ford 3000 to our new home tommorrow.

Whew! just the trailer slowed me down on some little hills - 2000 RPM 10 psi boost ~ 85% throttle and pushing 850F preturbo EGT tomorrow will be interesting with the tractor and cutter. I figure right about 9K or just over.

Wish I had an intercooler. Mid-day it warmed up to ~65F and the truck was a dog. It cooled off a little in the evening and the truck pulled better.
