Well it looks like I will have to get a new windshield. Just curious what your experience was getting this done. I am opting for LOF or PPG glass as that is as close to OEM as you can get, but just wondering..... Do you have any leaks, wind noise issues, did they get the mirror in the right place, etc? I know that service here will be different from anywhere else just looking for an overall perspective... Thanks

I've had a total of 3 in my 02 which I just sold. All broken by flying rocks from trucks on gravel roads in Mexico and Guatemala. Had no problems with replacements - never leaked, mirror was in correct place, no wind noise. Both were replaced in the US. I have had several replaced in previous trucks in Mexico as well (drove a buzzard through one - was my wife pi--ed!) and has no problems with windshields being installed in small towns there either. I do like the Mexican price better though - $125 including installation at night + 2 6 packs of beer after the job was done.

Make sure you go with the best quality you can get. I had one installed and it was supposed to be PPG but it was not. The wipers didn't work worth a crap. The window wasn't formed properly. They replaced it for me under warranty but I hate getting windshields changed any more then I have to.

I had to get mine replaced a couple weeks ago. I think it is a ppg. I will check when I get home. Safelite came to the house and changed it out. I haven't had any problems with it.

I had one changed right before a tree fell on my truck. Leaked pretty bad on the passenger side but the two events were so close together I can't say for sure if the tree did the deed or not.

Safelite wanted to come out and do mine to tune of $285 bucks. Told them where to go. Found an LOF installed for $185 same day service and they come to me. Have a tent they put up to cover vehicle, then they wash it for you when they are done.. I think that was nice of them...

Hoot, ya a tree can do some serious damage.. Guess you will never know about that one huh...

Had to replace mine a few weeks ago while on vacation in Colorado. Hanball sized rock hit right in front of my face at 60MPH. Local glass company out of Durango came and changed it at the campground for $249,00. No problems, heck if I know what brand it is I don't recall other than it was made in Canada.

Safelite beat the best price I had found prior to calling them. Came to my place of work and did the install. I watched the guy do the work and I was well satisfied with the quality of the install. Don't know if my standing there made a difference or not but it probably didn't hurt.

My install went fine. They did a real nice job and I was impressed with the service that I got. I decided to take it to them as I had nothing to do that day and I am very pleased with the business manors they had. l will be getting all my future glass from them...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

mine was replaced just befor i recieved it, it is factory glass, the only complaint is that my f-ing headliner was stuck to the adheasive/glass making it a PITA to mount my radar and my attitude, but its fine after a few minutes with a razor blade

Pardon my ignorance, but what do LOF and PPG mean? I need to replace my windshield (50 mph winds on I80 through Nevada plus 70 mph wheel speed--sandblast). I've got pits and chips all over it. I don't even want to talk about the paint on my hood.

Anyway, called an auto glass shop out here and they quoted $485!

What do I need to know?

Thanks,

Terel

Slightly off topic, however....

I have an '03 Sierra, and have noticed some distortion in the glass right at my sight line. I'm 6'4" and when I look straight out it looks like im looking into a line thats almost like looking through prescription glasses. Sometimes I notice it more than others depending on lighting, but it seems to be about 8" down from the headliner. Any one else notice this?

Well LOF and PPG are brands of glass that are very close to OEM. They will not have issues with the wipers and will fit as if they were made from the factory but a lot cheaper. Keep calling around and I am sure you will find cheaper glass. Make sure they warranty their work. Then you are ok.. Good luck

GMC2500HD,

Thank you for clarifying. I'll keep looking.

By the way, I like the quote in your signature--how true!
