i have an 83 military blazer that has been giving me some problems. When i bought the truck the owner gave me a set of new plugs. I got the truck home and put them in. They worked fine, cycled within 4-5 seconds, and started the truck fine. 2 weeks later they began taking longer to cycle and wouldnt start. It would take 20 seconds to hear the "click". They were a wellman glowplug. I then went to the local gm dealer and ordered a set of 13g plugs. The military trucks use a narrower connector on the tip of the plug, so I cant use the 60g plugs because of the wider connector. These lasted one weekend before doing the same thing. Could I have a bad relay or controller? I'm new to diesels and have to learn. When the truck is running I love it, cheaper fuel, 20 mpg on the highway, and lots of lookshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif
Any help would be greatly apprciated

I'l make a stab at this unfortunately my forte is 6.5,
Read plugs, connector to block should be close to 0 ohm.
Do you have power at the glow plug wire with key on put meter on plug and 1 probe to frame should have 12v. , does it stay then go or on continious, continous is a problem suspect controller
Is the engine warm when trying this there is a sensor incorporated in this early glow system looking for <125F before allowing glow plug controller to energize, try bypassing it run same test above looking for power on then off, sensor isloacted on same metal plate as glow controller screwed into drivers side rear cylinder head.
Glow lite stays on indefinately with key on and out with key off most probable controller.
Glow lite on even with key off relay is stuck
Is relay getting power
If your 13G plugs are indeed bad, Check Lucas/CAV 11G they did well in endurance tests and may have the narrow blade lug you need I don't know if the 13s are superior to the 11, but the article I'm referencing recommends the 11's.

Quite possible I dunno, but that sure would splain why they don't last long if using 12v plugs in a 24v system Edited by: Turbine Doc
