: smell of raw fuel?
Duramaxdude03 01-25-2007, 06:57 PM hey guys I got a question you all ! I noticed a raw fuel smell coming from underneath the hood of my truck. I looked around cannot find it, Checked all injectors, hoses and the fuel filter no leaks. And heres the kicker, it starts easy and quick. Do you guys think it coming from intake or what?
thanks for any input.
maybe take a good light,look down where the cp3 pump is front of motor,just a thought,fuel rails...maybe
NoWake200 01-25-2007, 07:08 PM I have also noticed a slight raw fuel smell coming from under the hood.
I just replace the fuel/water valve on my friends 7.3 PowerStroke, my Ford friends are saying the new fuel is eating the seals on the valve housing where it mounts to the fuel bowl. The valley was full of fuel...this is a Ford I know....just an FYI.
Duramaxdude03 01-25-2007, 09:19 PM yes max I looked there with a flash light cannot see anything fuel leaking
rchandler 01-28-2007, 04:11 PM mine too please pm me if you find out anything
1320in8 01-28-2007, 06:50 PM Mine also - crawled underneath with a light - all dry. checked everywhere including fuel rails - all dry. Filter is tight - absolutely no eveidence of leaking anywhere that I can find. I started noticing it a few months back after I'd drive somewhere. When I'd return to the truck about 20-30 minutes later I'd catch a whiff as I walked by the front of the truck. I haven't noticed it after the truck sits overnight. Glad to see I'm not alone out there.
Weird...
deepsouth 01-28-2007, 08:05 PM Have you checked your oil level? You can smell diesel in the oil from the crankcase vent.
markzrt1 01-28-2007, 09:55 PM My '03 was doing the same thing and leaving half dollar size spots of fuel on the garage floor. Never did figure out where it was coming from before I traded it off for my '07

I had the same thing happen before I knew it I had fuel leaking into the crank case .... it took over two weeks and long trip .... about 8 hours of driving before it there was enough fuel in the crank case to notice.
Duramaxdude03 01-28-2007, 11:21 PM I did check the crank case didnt smell like fuel to me. do you guys think it might be coming up though the intake after we shut it off. the unused fuel might be evaporating though the intake and coming out. is that possible ??

43eggharbor 02-19-2007, 12:35 PM 2001 Chev 2500HD - 90,000 miles
Just had the same issue that some of the others posted. Service engine light came on and truck immediately dropped to 35 MPH. Found a dealer in that area and had to leave the truck for two days. They said that the code showed "gelled fuel in filter". They replaced the fuel filter, and everything else was fine. The outside temp was about 18, and I do measure the additive with a baby bottle, so I don't know what that is about.
Then within 35 miles of the replaced fuel filter, it started to run rough at an idle up to 1100 RPM and it developed a heavy smell of deisel fuel from under the hood. Took it to the local dealer. Fuel in the crankcase. Needed all new injectors - and I think that they have to replace the injector pump. I'll find out when I pick up the truck and will post the actual repair. This dealer said something about a service bulletin that was issued concerning injectors, but it was hard to hear him on the phone.
Warantee covered the $4,000 expense.
rchandler 02-24-2007, 11:18 PM found my leak, the rubber lines between the filter and cp3 guess itll wait till i do head gaskets this summer
