So I am having a new issue. The truck is starting to not want to come out of 4x4. When it does it's a very abrupt slam in the front axle. Sometimes it takes upwards of 1-2 min after the 2hi button is pressed. I actually drove home yesterday from work and did not notice the 4x4 was still engaged till i hit the highway and she was hummin pretty good, even though the 2hi light was lit. As i pulled over, one the decel, the front axle released with a slam that you could feel in the truck. This is not good as i plow with this truck. Any ideas? I haven't been able to get the truck in the garage yet as i have a trouble car I have torn apart in there. maybe this weekend i'll have a peek. just looking for ideas now

could be the motor in the front axle getting stuck. Have you checked the front diff fluid?

How many miles? Mine old 1/2 ton was a pain to get out of 4wd if I didn't keep the tires rotated, it would bind and I would have to pull onto gravel or some other loose surface and put it in rev then shift into 2wd. I think when the front tires are slightly larger than the rear I had this problem. Just an Idea though...G

truck has 127k and has newer 285's on it. I'm still waiting on myself to get this other car done. Although the weather hasn't been nice to keep the temp up in there. Got some good ideas and I am def gonna check the fluid

I don't know much about the fullsize system, but aren't they vacuum actuated? On my Blazer there's a diaphragm under the battery that engages the front dif. If it is similar you may have a vacuum leak.

I don't know, just a thought... I'll have to look it over on this truck....

The axle will not disengage while there is a load on it. From the sounds of of it, your front and rear tires may be worn differently causing the front to load up.

If the axle clunks while going in, this is probably the case.
