Hello All
I have been reading on this forum for about 1 month now and decided to join ya'll. I am what you would call the diesel "idiot." I have just recently purchased a 2002 4x4 Duramax, Crew Cab(I don't know what LB7 or LLY stands for). It has 58,000 miles on it, but with a 100,000 mile extended warranty. I do not know how much power these things are really supposed to have. I did not know if there was something I could do to make sure that the engine was putting out at full capacity. Any tips on "tune ups" would be greatly appreciated after ya'll get through laughing at my ignorance on the subject.

No one will laugh, we all have to start somewhere. I personally recommend that you do a search on the forum for power options to best give you and idea of what you are looking for and what you want to do with your truck. Lots of people like the Edge/Attitude combo, some will sat TTS Extreme, some say Banks and some will say Quad. All depends on you and your pocket book... Welcome and good luck. Oh you have an LB7 motor....

I highly recommend the edge attitude. Really the only reason to go with something else is to make even MORE power than the edge can give you. So unless you want a truck that puts out 500 hp you will do just fine with the edge in one of its flavors. It comes in hot and really friggin hot.
Kennedy diesel sells and services the Edge products, excellent to work with.

For starters good choice. There are a lot of very informative people in here to help you out.
I would start off with changing all of your fluids around. You do not know who had it first or what they did to it. Might consider synthetic oils.
By putting any of these after market computer inhancments I would first get some gauges or the Edge juice and some others have the ability to monitor the EGT's and Boost levels as well as giving you that extra butt planting feeling.

Change air and fuel filters. Also be cautious of where you buy your fuel. Try and find a place that sells high volume (like a truck stop) Should have a lesser chance of having water in it. Should be cleaner aswell.
Good luck, and enjoy. I started where you are now. In a few months you will be answering peoples questions.

i posted this on another topic of the same nature. do what i did, become a sponge. search read, search read, search read. if your reading something and have a question, do a search, chances are soemone has already asked it. this site is like its own encyclopedia! i still consider myself a 'noob' to diesels, i bought my 02' in march. since then iv tried to become as familer as possible with every aspect of the duramax/allison combo. iv owned gasser chevys all my life so it was a bit of a change, but one worth making and one id make again in heartbeat.
as far as mods go, make sure you fully understand what your changing, how it works and what it does. be it adding or deleting items from the truck. make sure you dot your i's and cross your t's, remember your messing with $30,000+ if you just begin to plug and play something very bad is going to happen eventually.(for me it was tierods in a 4wd launch w/juice on crack mode http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif) do yourself a favor and get the juice/attitude combo asap. i got mine 2 or 3 weeks ago. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Rock On.gif< is about the best way to describe it...

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gifWelcome! If you have a question, the answer is here somewhere. Try the search feature, and read, read, read. If you don't find what you want, then ask; there is no such thing as a foolish question. Joining in here is your best first step, as most here will agree. I personally think that there is no other source for what you will find here: friendly people with vast amounts of experience and knowledge and a limitless desire to help others like us get the most out of our trucks. Enjoy the ride! Edited by: Black Max
