http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gifThis sounds like a dumb question, but I've been searching the posts on oil changes and haven't found the answer I'm looking for. I usually fill up the oil filter when changing, but all my filters to date have been vertical. How is this done on a horizontal as on the Duramax? Just partially fill, or don't fill at all? Thanks

I partially fill mine. I figure the shorter the time I don't have oil pressure, the better. I have a '77 Nova with an inline 6 in it, the filter on it is on its side also. I put in as much oil as I can without spilling.

I just put mine on empty as it is easy to make a mess when partially filling it putting it on its side.

I just put mine on empty as well. No need to fill it, you are not without pressure that long, maybe a few seconds tops. I don't think it is anything to worry about.

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Hug.gifThanks all for the replies. Sounds like a 90 degree adaptor would be a hot selling item!

I'm with ag4gt. I fill mine until it soaks up as much as it can, then I dump the excess in the crankcase via the fill tube and install the filter.
