Would there be any issues when using a Predator if you unloaded it for a dealer visit, the dealer does ECM updates, and then you want to load a tune back into it? Reason I ask is because I currently use a Predator and had to take the truck in this week. I unloaded the tune and put the factory tune back in. They did updates on the ECM and TCM along with the work. I came home (everything was fine on the ride home), loaded a tune, and now I'm having all kinds of weird issues. Check engine light (it shows a bunch of unknown codes), no power, and my fuel guage reads at 1/4 even though I just filled it up. Then put it back to the factory tune, and no change. Still bad. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's a 2001 GMC D/A. Thanks.

You should bring the truck back to the dealer and say that the updates caused all these codes and have them take a look at it. I would also make sure you have the most recent revision of the predator, I just had my predator updated and I believe mine is version. 1.11. Try reading the codes with the predator before you bring it in.

duramax hd, I figured it out. I do have 1.11 and I did read the codes. It came up with 10 codes and most came up as unknown codes according to the predator. When I restored the tune after it freaked out, I selected "restore factory tune" throught the install tune menu. Didn't work at that point. Then, I selected troubleshooting and there was an option in there to "return to stock settings". I selected that, and it started programming, but taking longer then a normal programming session. When it completed, all my problems went away. I started the truck and all was back to normal. Then I reinstalled the 85hp tune and it installed ok. Took it for a drive and again, all is well. Have no clue what the difference is between the restore factory tune option and return to stock settings option, but theres obviously something, expecially since the program time on the troubleshooting option is about twice the time. Anyway, thanks for the help.

roguedriver, you still have problems. The first time you used the Predator, it downloaded your "factory/stock" ECM settings. Now, your dealer has installed new, updated "stock" settings by re-flashing the ECM. When you finally got the Predator to "return to factory settings", it returned (re-flashed) your ECM to the "original" settings you initially downloaded, not the new updated version your dealer installedhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif Now you truck is okay, but you have lost the newly installed updateshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif Maybe you can get the dealer to re-install them without asking where they wenthttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif Once you get the ECM updates again, you need to give Diablo a call and see if there is a way to save the "new factory/stock" settings, but you will probably have to send it back to them to undo the vin-lock, and re-install it all over again. Good Luck, DinoMaxhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Well that sucks DinoMax. So answer me this if you know or if anyone else knows. Next time I head to the dealership and they hook up to the ECM, will It show if its had updates before, or will it show that it's never been updated? I got the TCM updates out of it, but the Predator doesn't have the cabability of returning that back, does it? Not having any problems anymore. It went in for the fuel pressure regulator replacemement so they did the updates while they were in there. Going hunting next week for 3 weeks so I can't afford to mess around will all that now, but am thinking i'll just wait till the next time I need any other dealer work. So what your saying is that I need to go get updates, then send the Predator back before reprogramming to undo the vin-lock before reprogramming my truck again? You know what updates have come out for the ECM since the introduction of the Dmaxes? They said I was behind 4 updates. Thanks for the help.

Alls you should have to do is, return the truck to stock on the Predator, take it in to get reprogrammed at the dealer, then the next time you use the Predator, it will save your new stock programming into the Predator and be all swell. I think this is the way it works, although it might not have even fully wiped out the new programs like you think??? You should call Diablo and ask them.

So what your saying is that when I went to load a tune back in after getting it back from the dealer with the fresh updates, it should have saved my factory tune program (along with the new updates) in the predator? And then when I restored factory settings, the factory settings along with the new updates should have been loaded back in? I hope so. I will call Diablo tomorrow and get the scoop. Thanks again for the help.

You need to always save the most recent updates in your Predator. That way in case anything happens you can go back to your stock settings and that will be the most up to date stuff... As well as keeping the updates in your Predator when new versions are put out. Same idea... Good luck...

It was my understanding that the tune in the ECM is captured everytime the Predator is used.

If you change tunes without restoring saved data you are only re-writing parts of the ECM tune over.

When you load a stock tune in it goes to your stock tune.

In the case of restoring saved data..I had an instance where my other TUNER corrupted my ECM program and I needed to restore the stock tune. The Predator was able to correct the problem and the other Tuner was replaced.

I keep it for a Speed Limiter remover , scan tool , and back-up copy for my stock ECM tune.

That depends on if you rewrite the data.

The Predator stores a stock configuration. If you plug it in go through the screen commands and return stock data "only" you have rewritten your ECM back prior to any updates.

I had a Quadzilla tuner rob my ECM program and freeze up where the Programmer was useless as a bent paper clip.Quad was no help he had me tap on the dash, wiggle the shifter, beep the horn ,flash the lights disconnect the batterys and pray it works. Then his phone went dead! I wonder, interesting. What a huge pain in the arse!

My truck would not start,I was stranded the only resolve was to tow vehicle make up a story at the dealer, find a friend on the inside with a bench loader, bring them the ECM,note I said Friend ,or Plug in the Predator so I found out, thankfully.

That was 300 dollars well spent on the tool,IMO,just for that incident, truck started right up.

I was under the impression you could only "save" your stock programming once, upon initial install, and then the Predator was locked to your VIN. You could go between performance tunes and back to stock anytime, but it would not let you change the original stock setting. I hope I'm wrong and you won't have to send it back in. If you get an answer from Diablo, let us all knowhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif
