Can anyone tell me what they think the best rear end ratio would be for a 2005 Kodiak towing a 38 foot fifth wheel.

Thanks, Tom

I have my rig set yup for cars and 4.88 seems to work well. Get a little taller tires and you can pull 70mph at 2300rpm.

I believe mine is 4:44. I bought it used and was thinking of installing a PPE economy program and I believe you can change the rear end ratio with the program.

Thanks. That's what I thought--it was purely mechanical.

5.13 will give you 63MPH at 2300RPM. Should be a tag on the rear diff. It will give you the ratio

Thanks Kodiak. I talked to the dealer and he said it was a 4.78 so I should be fine. I have not installed the PPE program but in the directions it said to put in the rear end ratio so I will just make sure it has the stock ratio indicated. The way it read it appeared you could put in a different ratio which didn't seem right to me.

5.13's in ours and they are fine IMO. If you travel much unloaded then maybe the others might be better but for us, we tow our boat and stacker trailer and its just right. (Cant really go much faster than 60 cause of calis laws on towing)
