Ok I am itchin to get some performance in the way of agresive sound for my 04 555 torque truck. I can find affordable 4 inch stainless steel exhaust systems from turbo back but I can't seem to find any 5 inch models that are priced where I feel comfortable paying. I will never install another aluminized steel exhaust as long as I live, thnks in part to flowmaster on my last truck. Some of you folks gotta know where I can find a decent system to help me out. I will most liikely stay with the sotock tubo although it may get a new elbow some time in its life. Injectors are too far out of line as I don't wish to going with any parts made out of billet in my automatic. A simple plug and play box edge or bullydog may find its way into the computer circuitry. I wanna know what gains other than sound I will get from a 4 inch exhaust or should it really get the 5 inch treatment?

Diesel Dynamics has some 4 inch vs 5 inch sound/video clips on their website -- http://www.dieseldynamics.com/exhaust.htm
I went with RIP straight pipe 5" (aluminized) on my truck and LOVE the sound. I saw 5" stainless somewhere online, but I cannot recall where. Keep in mind that most any 5" system will have a drone around 2000 - 2200 rpm and can be a bit abnoxious while towing.
But -- I love mine. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

well I went with a four inch stanless system from piers in WA, shipping says it will be here around the 1st of september and I cant wait. After that I'm gonna have to wait till I recover a little bit from the exhaust. Next item is gonna have to be a box to kick things up seeing that there will be more breathing room. for now just gonna keep looking out the window for the fedex truck.... if it wasn't 90 lbs I would have considdered faster shipping.

well it arrived today and man was I set to go.... all I can say is good thing I have a cordless sawzall, aint no way I was getting the stock muff off without it. Then the ugly happened. For a custom to the truck instalation you shouldn't need to have a sawzall, freaking magnaflow sux for fit and research. First of all system advertised as turbo back setup, NOT. Uses the factory downpipe which is right around 4 inches, then they have you slip fit the next pipe inside and they send a 3.5 inch run to the truck store fixed that, band clamp sealed it up good. during the test fit I notice that once I got the tailpip over the axle and the fron tube in there was only about 8 inces for the muffler, magnaflow is about 24 inches long! out comes sawzall again, but the problem is where the hanger is welded to the pipe makes me stop cut before I really want to and then have to go back to the stock factory downpipe and cut about four inches off of that. Getting mad now, suns going down and alreay bashed one knuckle pretty good. only had to cut two other spots, the tabs on the slip over muffler were too long and one tab on the inlet end had to go to leave a notch for the hanger. All in all sh*ty work by magnaflow.
On the upside it sounds good. little consolation for all the money spent and time wasted.
One of the problems with premade systems, unfortunately, is the inability of the manufacturer to make a perfect fit. It would be nice if they gave you great instructions on how to custom fit the stupid custom fit system.
I bought from Rip Rook because he sends you a kit that needs to be custom installed... loose 1/2" bar weld on hangers, like the factory. You cut the main tubes to proper length, hang the system with big tie-wraps and tweek it, hit it with a few tack welds, position the hangers, tack some more, cut the tie-wraps... check fit... finish welding.
My kit came with a 4" downpipe imediatley expanding to 5" all the way back. I had to cut one pipe. No muffler.
Sorry to hear of your troubles. Thanks for letting us know though.

Why not just rpl the muffler? Its the restriction and saves you a couple hundred and a headache.

After watching someone here spend 250 on the muffler alone I found a deal on the magnaflow system, supposed to be turbo back, for 325 plus shipping. going through the motions to slap in a muffler and not remove the other restriction, the cat, seemed a waist of time. Furthermore the turbo back model I ordered is fully mandrel bent and a lot smoother than the factory bend and send pipe work. Besides that stainless is way sharper to look at! Biggest let down was the lack of the turbo downpipe and the fit.
