I know that some of you guys have removed the console on you truck to do audio stuff. I have a rattle under there some where and I has me to the point that I am ready to try and find it. I plan on removing the console and putting in some dinomat or equivalent. If any one has any suggestion on where to start or any procedures I would appreciate it.

You can remove a lot of it by pulling. Open the console lid an you can see 9 screws (4 on lid and I think 5 for the bucket). Once you have those off that part just pops right out. For the drink holder part...pull up and it pops right out. The part above the drink holder (not so useful shelves) just grab on the black part between the shelves and pull. That will leave the outer frame which pulls out only after you pull the dash frame piece. Thats about as far as I have gone into mine. I was amazed at how much stuff is under there. Seems like a ton of plastic. I have still yet to find my amp or my sub down there.

That rattle is about to drive me nuts! It is coming from the pass side side panel. If I put pressure that it will stop momentarily. Sounds like crinkling tin foil. Thanks for the advice

I had a buddy with a 1500 that had a rattle in his AC vent. It was the left hand passenger vent. Put a finger on it and it would stop.

If you're under warranty, make the dealer fix it.

It isn't worth taking the mods off for that. Plus I am pretty anal when it comes to letting some one else work on my truck. For some reason They just don't seem to care about things like I do.

The console is easily removed by pulling out the cup holder exposing two 7mm screws and removing two I believe 10mm bolts in the bottom of the console.

There is not a whole lot under there to rattle.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

It sounds like a wire taping against plastic or something of the sort.

Under mine is a steel mounting plate and duct work for the vents in the console.

Of course I have added a few things. Are you sure it isn't just the passenger seatbelt catch bouncing and tapping?

Try engaging the passenger side seatbelt. This is of course you only hear it when flying solo.

I can pull out on the console side panel and stop it. The seat belt doesn't' have any effect on this one. I have been hunting this rattle all summer! If I have to I will remove the console and ride around to see if it is deeper than that. I despise rattles and knocks!

I removed mine out of a '02 LT Dually. it comes out pretty easy. the conglomeration in front has four 7mm screws holding it to the dash. under mine I had ductwork for the vents, no wires. I didnt have the fancey stereo http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif on my LT Dually. I got a cup holder and jumpseat in there now. not bad except they are dark blue in color http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif compared to that '02 tan http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif. hope that helps. I found the rattle! Just don't know how to fix it. It is coming from the metal brace that runs from seat to seat under the console. I think it is where the brace and the pass seat bracket meet. I my try to put a rubber washer or something between them. I can touch the bracket under the console and it duplicates the sound every time. What type of wrench do I need to remove the nut from the seat?

Do what mackin said and then you can get to the metal brace between the two seats. This metal brace is what the two 10 mm bolts screw into. If you remove the two bolts under the cup holder and the two bolts in the bottom of the console, then the console itself will slide back exposing the metal brace that goes to the two seats.

The problem is actualy not in the console(so I found out after I tor it all to hell) it is where the brace an the pass seat meet. It was just amplified through the concole. The seat has an unusual nut on it though.

Not having looked at the GM seats, the bolts on the Ford seat are torx bolts (kind of look like a star).

those nutsd are reverse torques (SP), I have the sizes at home, unless some one post them sooner. Got my sockets from Snap-off, I mean Snap-on. Had my seats out a couple of times. Billy

Hey wakeboarder, sorry it took so long to get back to you. On my '02 the front seats are help down by a "E20" reverse torx nut, the back is held down by a "E16" Torx, 4 ea (front & rear). then the (in your case) console is held down by a bracket that uses same mounts as the seat. pretty easy to remove. the seats do have to come out to get the console out. Good luck hope that helps you out. Billy
