Anyone widen their stock PYO's. I am having trouble finding someone who will widen aluminum wheels. I would like to make them 16x8.5 or 9. Just wondering if anyone has done this or had an estimate on prices.

I know I could probably get aftermarket wheels in 16x8 or 10 for close to the same price, but that's not what I want to do. Thanks,

I never heard of widening aluminum wheels. I imagine it'd be expensive, especially, considering you'd need to remove clearcoat, then machine smooth and polish the weld then reclear.

If it is an option, I'd entertain it too...there a good looking wheel.

FYI: I think american racing (not sure who) makes a "chamber" in black, polished or chrome. Very similar looking wheel to stock PYOs minus the smaller holes between the big ones if that makes any sense. Add a set of factory lugs and centers, it'd be hard to tell whats different but the width. Also, they are available in larger diameters too...

There is a compay doing it, I priced it and it much more expensive that a good set of aftermarkt wheels. They have to add the width to the front side to maintain back spacing, then you have to clean up the welds and have the recleared. IIRC it was 200 per wheel to add 1.5" to make them a 8" wide wheel

CJGLLY, curious why you want to widen the rims as instead of buying new ones? Just like the looks of the stock rims?

Adding 1" of backspace is not that bad, I can't remember the price, but you don't have to re-clear coat

I wanted to put 33's on the stock wheels for the winter. I really like the look of the stock wheels and thought it would be a little safer if the wheel was wider with that big of tire. Just a thought, who knows what I will do.

Try Stockton Wheel http://www.stocktonwheel.com/ they are one of the few shops these days that will actually build custom wheels for the customer. I know most machine shops will not touch this kind of project due to liability issues. But if you find one that will I would add 2" to the outside and it would make an awsome wheel. I agree that would make a very nice looking wheel. Polishing and re-clearing is not a big issue.

Tall skinny tires are definately better in snow. I run 255/85/r16 tires on my winter truck. They are 33" tall and are rated to fit on the 6.5" wide rim.
