Changed both filters today. The Nictane has 10,000 miles on it and the stock filter 11,500. Both look pretty good with just some srtiping top to bottom in about 2 spots. Opinions?

The cans scare me a little. A nice spot of rust in the Cat and some very small spots in the stock filter. I have run a few different additives so I don't know which one isn't doing it's job. Who's having good results on rust prevention and what additive are you using?Edited by: BigdaddyG

that looks like my buddy's truck who doesn't run additive.. spot in the bottom of the cat, and just a bit in the oem..

primrose 405 always kept both mine 100% rust-free.. you didn't mention which additive you are using. is it stanadyne by chance?

While those filters were on the truck I have run Howes, Power Service, Fuel Power and Stanadyne. So who knows which one let the rust in. Doing some checking looks like Primrose is well respected on the site and seems to keep the rust at bay. Edited by: BigdaddyG

When you took the big filter off, did you pour the contents into a glass jarr to see if there was water in it?

Didn't find any water Bill. Just ordered up some Primrose 405C, the concetrated version, hopefully that will solve the rust/water problem. Anyone know how much to add to 20-22 gallons? supposed to be a ratio of 1 to 3000 or 1 to 2000. That kind of math makes my head hurt!!!

BigdaddyG, that filter doesn't look so bad. You got me curiose about how my old CAT filter looked and so I cut 'er open and it not look so nice http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif.

I had about 10,000 miles on this filter. I plan to cut the OEM filter open later today.

Blake,

Not a drop of additive while that filter was on the pickup. From the looks of things I am thinking I need to consider primrose 405 or somethin'.

Since changing that filter I've run PowerService DieselKleen a few times. Mainly on trips with my fifth wheel or when running long distances.

I am wondering if an emulsifier would help reduce that ugly ol' scab.

Thanks PC.

Lttl. I ran power service the most on those filters. The rust on the bottom of my Cat filter also looks like a big scab. My primrose should be here Friday.
