: Transmission failure signs
tewitt1949 08-14-2004, 10:41 PM Are there any repeditive signs that a transmission has been damaged? All I have is edge with attitude, and I was just wondering what tell tale signs I might notice that the trans has been damaged.
Will it just start slipping, noise, or just quit all together?
Thanks Terry

GMC2500HD 08-14-2004, 10:49 PM What are you seeing on the Attitude? Any slippage on the monitor? I have heard you will notice a change in shift patterns... That is about all I can tell you on that. Do a search and see if you find anything else on this matter. I am sure it has been posted on here somewhere.
WanaDmxsub 08-15-2004, 02:22 AM It will lock it self in 3rd gear, set a code and tell you that "if you want to play you must pay"
Pull over, shut off truck, check and clear codes, unload the 120 tune, load the 85 tune, start truck and go about the rest of your life, pretending like nothing ever happened. Until, you can figure out a way to get the tranni upgrade of your choice with out "her" finding out.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

When I upgraded my trans, the wife looked at the parts all over the garage bench and asked if the truck would ever run again http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
She never asked why I needed the upgrade, nor did she care , but after 15 years she just said that "she was getting new living room furniture too , RIGHT ????????" http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif
So the furniture will be here in 3-4 more weeks.........http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

You will need access to a TECH II. Snap-On scanner or a Quad/Bully-Dog Tuner or Predator to read them.
A predator will not reset TCM Stored codes.

Diesel Tech 08-15-2004, 05:29 PM One thing that's a give away is when your in 5th gear lockup and as you roll into it the RPM climbs but the trucks not going any faster. Edited by: Diesel Tech
White Duramax 08-16-2004, 09:17 AM You know its not good, when the tach keeps on a climbin and the speedo stays the same!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif Stock tranny will do with some power!
ratlover 08-16-2004, 09:29 AM if you are running over 90 or so HP I bet you are damaging things a bit. How do you know if you hurt it bad? when it starts doing things like is described above. But with a juice you are probably hurting it a bit. I dont mean to scare you, most guys that have hurt thier trans BAD and it slips easy were it would hold no problem were fine when it went back to stock power.
Take a look at the trans fluid and if you have a box change your spin every 10k at least(or every oil change is easy....duno what intervall you are running? if you running till your dic gives out maybe every 7 or 8?)
Take a look for my "juiced trany autopsy".
You are hurting it more than likely IMO.....but bad? depends, allys seem to hold differnt from the factory, but most people have seen burnt clutchpacks on tear down if they have been playing. Unless by hurt if you mean hurt it bad....well when it starts doing the above described were it was holding fine before, its really hurt.

403turbo 08-16-2004, 12:50 PM Be careful with the attitude slip number.....that is only a measure of how much the torque convertor is slipping.......however with a stock tranny I would say that the TC will slip before the clutch packs......maybe I'm wrong.....
If you don't keep that spin on filter changed those clutch packs will start slipping like crazy.......and the 'tude will show zero slip.
just a heads up
