I'M NEW TO THE DIESEL MARKET AND DON'T WANT TO SEEM DUMB, BUT MY FIRST QUESTION IS WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE "LB7" AND THE "LLY" DURAMAX. I HAVE A 2004 3500 WITH THE LB7.

SECOND QUESTION IS WHICH EXHUAST AND COLD AIR BOX FOR THE DURAMAX SEEM TO WORK BEST. I DON'T WANT TO CHANGE THE COMPUTOR. I WAS TOLD IF I ALTER THE COMPUTOR SETTINGS IT WILL VOID MY WARRANTY. I TOW A 36' TOYHAULER 5TH WHEEL AND WANT A LITTLE MORE TORQUE .

I believe from what I have read and know from my mileage , the Lb7 gets better fuel mileage and has plenty of power.</TD></TR>

I'M NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT THE POWER, BUT TOWING A 12000 LB TOYHAULER IN SOUTH FLORIDA WHERE IT'S FLAT AND LEVEL IS ONE THING, BUT WHEN I LEAVE FLORIDA I WAS WONDERING HOW IT WILL HANDLE THE VARIOUS AREAS WITH HILLS AND VALLEYS

If you want more towing capacity I would suggest the TTS Tow tune for your truck. It will do you the best. As far as exhaust and air intake, Banks makes nice exhaust systems, so do MBRP and TTS. Intake you might want to look at AFE Stage II. That should do what you are looking to do and add more HP and Torque to your truck. Good luck and WELCOMEhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

I have heard of their stuff but not familar with any use on the Dmax. I would personally use the AFE and I know there are many out there. You will have to use the forum and do your research, you will find many topics on this especially the Air filter study thread. It is long but interesting...

Hi Staz and welcome,

You'll find various opinions here so don't let it scare you off. I prefer the Banks Six-Gun, version one. There is a second version out called the Race tune. You'll find others prefer the Juice (with or with hot/attitude) and others such as the one GMC2500HD suggested.

'MY' preference for the Banks has to do with the safety features that automatically turn back the power should it get to unacceptable levels. This is with the Speed-Loader option. I've pulled my trailer up 7-8 degree grades with ease. That was before I put the exhaust on.

I'd suggest changing the exhaust first. I've found that thru seat of the pants, Dyno and trailer pulling that this is the one upgrade that pays for itself in power and lower EGT's (a little in mileage too). With just that you should find that the Duramax is a great Diesel.

As suggested though, Do some searching and enjoy that new truck!
