While at the Chevy stealership today getting the truck serviced I saw several 2005 Silverado's. The only noticeable difference is the hood is going back to the HD look, headlights/parking lights are the same, the grille insert is slightly different. I like the look, but if you can still get your hands on a 2004 with the rebates and the $1k power discount package you might want to grab one. You'll get the same machine, just not the raised hood. Not quite the same machine...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

They bumped both the HP and the torque, and IIRC, there's supposed to be a couple of auxillary fans installed in front of the radiator?

I didn't look the other day when I was over to the Chevy store, but I'm considering one since the change is most welcome, not nearly so "Angry Chinaman" look anymore...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

I thought the fans were for the gassers ..?

I don't know about the fans, that's why I put in the question mark. I asked the salesman about it and he didnt' have a clue. Going to go back over there tomorrow for some more info and I'll go look since one of their '05's I saw is a Dmax.

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gifFor those on the fence the minimal extra hp/tq may not be worth passing on the incentives(if still offered) and paying an additional $5k+ for an 05. Heck, I could pick up a 2005 hood and replace mine if I want and you would not know the difference between the two. I've already replaced the grill with a stainless steel one for $180, polished stainless steel Westin brush guard takes care of the rest of the front end. 2004's are hard to find rite now. Iam hoping they raise the incentives before my 2005 comes in next month....I saw a 2005 Chevy today all thou it looks better than the 04 model i still prefer the GMC over the Chevy.

FASTOYS,

Don't think they'll let me do that, at least not yet. The three they have are all kind of hidden in the back parking area behind the body shop and have not had the PDI done...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif

There are a few on the lot at a local stealership. I test drove an '05 2500HD, dmax, cc, 4x4 - Black, charcoal leather interior. Beautiful truck. I did not notice any differences between an 04 and 05 besides the grille and hood. Honestly, I don't think its that big of a deal. The transmission did seem very jerky compared to some of the 04's I have driven... I'm not sure of any changes.

Anyways... I began to deal with them.. I have an '02 GMC Z71 ext cab, black, leather - clean truck with 38K miles. I told them I wanted to trade and that I was eligible for the supplier discount.... OK, great, no big deal.... so - he takes me to his desk.. we start talking while my truck is being appriased. I only owe 8K and they appraised it at 20K. Great, I have 12K of downpayment. So, they wanted to run my credit... I said no, I am financing through my credit union - theres no need for that. He said they need to determine my finance rate so they can figure their numbers... I said "0" - I AM FINANCING THROUGH MY BANK" He still insisted on a number, so I told him 5% - I didn't care - I wanted to see some numbers on paper.

ok... so after being in the office for approx 45 mins... the dude comes back in to "present the offer" get this... $46,500 for the truck, minus the trade in - they were coming up with $710/month for 72 months!!!! I was like WTF!! where is the supplier discount... my trade in?? He says that since the vehice is so new. there is no supplier discount listed... I said, what do you mean, there is a supplier discount/GMS listing for ALL vehicles. He said they could not honor that since it was so new!!!! I was about the whip some a$$ - I was so pissed that they wasted all of that time with them knowing that I wanted the disount price... I got up and immediatley left... Stupid fawking dealerships!!! ahhhh

sorry for the rant... overall the '05s are nice... =)

Tunedportcj5 states: "one day.... one day i will own a 2500hd D/A 4x4"

J'ville here as well guy. The "stealerships" in this town are notorious for jkng' off customers. http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Pinch.gif I ended up at Jon Hall Chevrolet at Daytona Beach on my last 2 vehicles (02 Avalanche and 04 Silverado). Very satisfied with the numbers on both transactions. I dealt with Genette in new truck sales.

I was down there a couple of weeks back and they had 2 or 3 2004's with D/A on the lot. These were 3500's though, not 2500's. They may have had some I just looking at the 3500's. You can check their inventory by going to GMBuypower.com . My experience has been the J'ville dealers are $1-2k above the same vehicle elsewhere.

Good luck! PS: Do you know of any truck shops in town that know what they are doing with diesel mods, chips, exhaust, etc.? JJ http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Tunedportcj5,

Oops, forgot to mention the 05's I saw the other day were at the Chevy dealership on Phillips Highway by the Avenues Mall. I believe they were 2500's. I don't recall any being black, more like silver birch metallic and white. JJ

yup, thats where I was.. coggin chevy at the avenues.. they had a black and silver birch there...

don't know of any shops in town.. I do it all myself, I have a hard time trusting other shops... (well, the ones around here)

what do you need done?

That's kind of what I figured. I've had the same experience with them on several occasions - ridiculous! For what they wanted for a 6.0 2500 gasser I bought my 3500 D/A dually at Jon Hall.

As for mods, eventually I'm going to upgrade the exhaust and either go edge/juice or TTS handheld programmer. I'm leaning towards the TTS. I haven't found any local shops where the salespeople sound like they know WTF they are talking about. This site is far better for gathering intel, I just don't know how to install and service most stuff.

Good luck with your shopping. JJ

Saw and drove an 05 2500HD today D/A. They do NOT have any elec. fans in front and from what I could tell with the 04 and 05 parked side-by-side the radiator, fan, and cluth all looked the same!!!

Curios to see posts after someone tows with the 05 if the fan noise is still their??

Performance felt no different than my 04 3500 SRW

BTW if you want the new hood the grill has to be changed too (slightly different lines at the hood)http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

One other thing

The new look (raised hood) comes with a price.

I noticed right off the bat that you had a lot less over hood visability over the 04

My guess is the HP and TORQUE increases are solely programming to one up the Dodge numbers

O.K. so that was two things

Whatcha wanna bet GM knew in advance they could keep bumping the hp/tq numbers up on the D/A to stay ahead of the competition? It's a numbers game with these toys! JJ http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Tunedportcj5, go on GMBUYPOWER.COM and do a search at Daytona Beach, or go to Jon Hall Chevrolet or Jon Hall GMC. They have 3 2500 D/A 4x4's in stock, 1 is a 2005. You might get some numbers you like. Good luck. JJ

Comparing the '04 with the '05 raised hood and grill....the '05 doesn't work near as well visually. The '04 looks better.

If I understand correctly, only the half tons are getting the drums brakes and the HD's are staying with the disks for now...

Reineke, is that your "final answer?" http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif Just checked Chevy's site on the 2005's. The 1500's have rear drums, all 1500HD's and up have rear disk brakes. JJ http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif
