: Mud Flaps, Dont Like Them But
Victory Red 08-14-2004, 10:16 AM I've never been a big fan of mudflaps. They just never seem to be attractive enough, but I got extremely tired of cleaning off tar, road debris, and paint chips. I originally bought some Fleet Farm specials at $20 a set, but they had blue bow ties and after a quick paint job, still didnt like the look and the screwing into the flare for holding seemed a little cheesy.
So I bought these

12 x 20 for the fronts and 12 x 23 for the rears so plenty big. Excellent mounting hardware included. Yes they are stainless. The fronts and rears use existing holes where you remove the push tabs. The rears also have a support mount that you must drill through the pinch weld but that's relatively easy. Install for all 4 was around 30 mins.
These are made by Luverne Truck Products. I got them locally for $105(with tax) for fronts and rears. Still not a huge fan of these, but at least they look pretty nice.

SpoolinTurbo 08-14-2004, 03:27 PM heh heh heh... yer truck's got a yeller streak... heh heh heh.
Those don't actually look too bad. I'm not a big fan of mudflaps either but I think that I am going to have to spring for some here in the near future. My flares are beat all to heck from gravel.
nassdmax 08-16-2004, 08:23 AM My dad just got a set of four for his truck too... I thought they were the better of what is out there. Nice to see you liked them.
Especially on trucks with larger tires. I've been running 33's and now 35's on my new truck. The BFG's a real rock kickers so decent flaps are a must. Got the chips and dents to prove it.
Rick they look good. Is that stainless?
Victory Red 08-16-2004, 06:24 PM nass,
out of the ones I've seen first hand I like these the best. The duraflaps are supposed to be an excellent flap as well, but no local retailers and nearly twice the price with the stainless steel weights.
I also liked these because they're longer than most, rigid and easy to install. The material could be a little thicker for the actual flap, but these should be plenty durable.
Yes Hoot they are stainless. Even the mounting hardware that was included is stainless as well so no problem there.
A local dealer has Chevrolet screw on plates that I may pick up for the bottom rears. If not maybe the company that laser cuts the tailgate straps for me may make me a custom part.
You'd better pace yourself on additions to your new truck. You may run out of things to do and have to trade up again.

No way man.... That means I'd end up wit a FordEdited by: hoot
nassdmax 08-17-2004, 12:14 PM As for the flap, When I was looking at my dad's set, I was thinking he should mount them lower than the mounting holes were calling for. I liked it showing some more stainless. Still sharp as they are! A polished SS bowtie would be a nice addition. VR making things better again = http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif
Hoot will just have to come back when the next model comes out. He wouldn't be able to stand having an "old" truck... :)

hmmm, F250 front end, tow mirrors and hood, GM interior with the Allison and 5.9 cummins bolted to it. That'd be one sweet truck in my opinion. Never going to happen, but hey that for me would be the best of all.
Victory Red 08-17-2004, 06:27 PM nass,
I agree the flaps could be lowered a bit or show a little more steel, but I'm happy with them overall.
As for making things better, I'm trying to think of something to say D-max or along those lines without worrying about copyright infringements. If I can't, maybe I may just have to buy something off the shelf.
The cool thing about places like this is that it brings people together. Jerry with his CB bracket, me with my tailgate straps, Nick with his Cat filters, Kennedy with just a whole slew of stuff, Eric with his filter wrench.
Kind of astounding if you think about it, all these idea makers out there coming out of the woodwork to make our trucks better.
BrianB 08-24-2004, 12:33 AM Does anyone know where to buy the clear sticky stuff that is like a big sheet of thick tape that you can put on the body behind the tires to protect the paint.
Thanks,
Brian

I was thinking the stainless steel trucker chick would be a nice addition to those.

Steve Cornell 10-05-2004, 08:08 AM I also installed the Luverne Molded flaps, I'm very happy with them, I ordered the 20" for the front and the 23" for the back, after installing them I decided I should have gone with the 23" in the front as well so I ordered another set of 23" for the front to help protect the body a bit better.
I have a set of 20" Luverne flaps for sale if anyones interested...

SPICER 10-17-2004, 11:14 AM I went with the duraflaps. Dennis spent 1/2 hour on the phone with me as I took measurements. He makes a variety of flaps for our truck that are pre-drilled and go right on to the factory holes in the fender. REALLY SWEET! But I want EXTRA LONG flaps for my travel trailer. He is making me a pair that is 2 1/4 inches longer than his standard chevy flap. This will make them 3 1/4 inches longer than my "GM splash guards" that I have now.
Dennis is great to work with and wants satisfied customers more than anything, worth the extra price. I will post when they are installed. SPICER
