I just noticed this while I was washing the truck today-- I don't know how long its been like this-- but the corner of my rear bumper on the right side of the truck is blue. Its blue like chrome turns when it gets hot. How could that have happened? My dad said exhaust, since its on the exhaust side, but how could something that far back have got that hot? Wouldn't it have to just about melt the whole exhaust pipe to get hot far enough back to discolor the bumper? And then it has a plastic piece on the front of it that looks fine, so wouldn't that have melted first?
I have no idea how to explain this one. Anybody heard of it before?

Mine gets that way from the soot. I hit it with a little wheel cleaner, scrub it up and it is good as new. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gifMine gets that way too, but I didn't know what to use to clean it. Would an exhaust extention of some kind make a difference? Thanks for the cleaning info.

I had the same problem, except it was all over the lower part of the fender also. I made an exhaust extension and it all want away. Haven't had any since I installed the extension.
By the way, it takes 600 degrees F to turn steel blue.

SOOT. If it was heat, the plastic and paint in that area would be gone.
Have fun cleaning.

mine would get that way in the cold air of WY. All I did was got a dry towel and rubbed it and it came off. It wasn't soot. It was a purplish blue. It did that for a while when it was new, now it doesn't.
