Hey guys.. new to the site and I have a few questions. I did a search for this but couldn't find the exact answers I was looking for. I'd like to add some good performance mods to my truck and gain a little mileage in the process. My boss is a bullydog dealer so I can get a pretty good discount on their products, but will go with something else if it's enough better. I'm not looking to spend tons and tons of money but would like to add some things to make the truck perform better.

Here are my questions:
Best programer or tuner out there?
Best exhaust?
Best air intake?
Other good performance options for the money..

thanks

Best programmer for the money IMO is the EVO, its what i run, excellent power and no problems. Many folks go with the MBRP exhaust, I run Silverline. For the intake there is a really good post about how they really dont do much but lower EGT's, search "CAI". If you're going to run a programmer hot you may want to consider a transgo jr.

Moved to third generation electronics. You should get most of your answers here.

I was an Edge guy, but just got a Predator and all I can say is wow. They have my vote for best bang for a buck!

the evo and predator are great tuners and any 4in exhaust will outperform stock. i think the best intake out there is the afe stage 2, if you arent willing to drop the cash for a stage 2 the next best thing is the stock system.

As for a tuner, my vote is Edge Evo as well. I have tried BullyDog & Superchips, and in my opinion the Evo is far and away much better. Have not tried the Predator, so I cant say there.

I have not changed the exhaust on this truck.... yet :evillol: . But, I did have a 4" MBRP on my LLY, and I really liked it. So I will probably go with this setup on this truck as well.

All this kinda depends on what you plan on doing with your truck.

Thanks for all the input so far. I need to put something on it for an intake because I bought the truck with some front end damage due to it hitting a deer, and the fender broke the air box. I will mainly be using the truck just for everyday driving, but will be pulling my race car to races this summer and will tow smaller things like mowers, snowmobiles, etc.. that won't work it at all. I'd like the programmer/tuner that gave the best performance/milage without a load though, because it will have more miles without a trailer than with.

Racinmike.. didn't even look at who all posted until now. I am just moving into a late model, how do you like that rocket?

I've been reading around a bit and am thinking maybe i'll chose the PPE over the bullydog even though I can get an awesome deal on the bullydog. It looks like the PPE has everyone beat on power in their high level tunes, but how is the fuel economy compared to the others in the lower level settings?

I put a Bullydog triple on my 06 and it made world of difference. I had it set on the performance setting and I had a hard time getting to 30 mph on icey roads because of wheel spin even with studs and FWD. So I backed it down to the tow haul mode for winter. If you do go with a bullydog get the outlook and controller combo. It's not the best on the market but like you I got a good deal and it does work. As far as gas mileage does it hard telling because of the fuel we get now.

You should pick up 2-3 mpg with any of our tuner's as long as you can keep your foot out of it. You will usually get the best economy in the higher settings with a light foot.

The other thing I liked about the bullydog was the ability to adjust on the fly. Dan, what does it take to change the settings on the PPE?

yea ive got an '06 lly with the ppe programmer. picked up about 2-3 mgp on the low setting. installed a 4'' turbo back, then lost 1.5 mpg. then bumped the tune up to them middle setting and got even better mpg. dont know why?

Make your engine happy. Start with addons for durability before adding too much power. I.e. bypass oil-filter system, additional fuel filter system, also think of good synthetic fluids. Then make your tranny happy. Deep pan, transgo jr. Then help your engine breath.
Any good brand of exhaust. Just remember if you remove cat get the finger stick. Now search for either programmer like predator, superchips, hypertek or the more expensive setups like edge/attitude. I left out intake system. Read sticky on air filter systems and decide for yourself if you want to spend big bucks on intake system that might not do as advertised.

On the ppe you can not change on the fly, No matter what bully dog you have theres no way it will hang with the ppe hot+2. the comment on having trouble not spinning on ice lol try not spinning at 40 to 50 on dry roads and keeping it striaght on the highway at 80 with light pedal hits

Well i've installed a few of the bullydogs and it only takes a few minutes. I'm guessing it will be just as quick of a download to change the PPE if I decide to play?
