: Keeping Courtesy lights On While Driving
5thgeartapped 08-12-2004, 11:53 PM Sounds odd, but is it possible to keep the interior lights on at the level of brightness they reach jus before they shut off, Kinda off like mood lighting in a Limo?? Im sure there is a way, any ideas?? Thanks all...
baimpala 08-13-2004, 12:35 PM I think you could do it. The map lights and all the other lights that dim receive power from one of two paths. Both paths come from the Body Control Module. If you tapped into a positive all the time source and added an inline dimmer, you could then splice into the Courtesy Lamp Supply Voltage circuit (although you would need the switch to disconnect the BCM signal and replace it with your dimmed signal) and voila, you've got mood lighting.

A little easier maybe, and it should also turn off eventually if you forget to turn off the switch if you did it the other way.

Ya what he said...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif Just curious why you would want to do this? I am not following your reasoning if there is any...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif
mpdlt 08-13-2004, 08:47 PM Well it obvious, ol 5thgear has him a hen he's trying to nest!

5thgeartapped 08-17-2004, 12:18 AM ha ha good man....... great minds think a like. As far as tackling the problem, I like the idea of an inline dimmer switch, questions is how much fun will it be to try and find the ol wire....???
5thgeartapped 08-17-2004, 12:27 AM oh one more thing.....the look i want is when the lights jus are dimming before they shut off. I dont want the overhead dome on, jus the door lights.. Is this possible? I know I have run out of things to do to it, so now what lol....thanks
BlueOx03 08-17-2004, 01:08 AM Add a light or LEDs to your door lights and tap into the heated seat switch lights, then it will come on and dim with your dash lights...

baimpala 08-17-2004, 12:43 PM Doesn't look very easy to do just the door lights or any other single light. Signal path is generally straight from the BCM to a Data Link Connector to a Door Module to the light through a door jamb switch.
Why don't you just run some supplemental lighting with a switch and a dimmer that is run off a hot only in run/start (which is readily available right under the dash. A couple of small lights and covers are pretty cheap, and you could put one under each side of the dash, one under each seat, whereever you wanted, dim them with the dimmer control or just turn them off with the switch. In the long run that would probably be a h*ll of a lot easier than trying to rig up something with the stock lights.

BlueOx03 08-17-2004, 09:40 PM Really it is that easy, IF he has the heated seats. This isn't a guess, I've done it. Another option is to get the 02 under dash light sockets (I'm guessing the mounts are still in the 04s as my 03 has them) and wire them as Dennis said or tap the instrument panel lights...There's many options..

BlueOx03 08-17-2004, 10:17 PM I just went out and snaped some night pics of my modified lights.

Hope this helps ya out...

baimpala 08-17-2004, 11:04 PM Nice, I kinda like that. It would probably be pretty hard, but any way to get a 'Driver's Seat View' with them lit up? That would probably sell a few on doing it that way.
Thanks,
Dennis
BlueOx03 08-17-2004, 11:25 PM It's real tough to get good pics of these lights at night, I'll try at dusk sometime. They really help me score, need I say more?

baimpala 08-18-2004, 07:50 AM Well, I guess I should do it and then take the wife out there, huh? Then we'd have sex a THIRD time and then have three kids! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif
