My father has a 2000 6.5 and he is having a problem with the truck not starting. He describes to me that the wait to start light and other indicator lights some times DO NOT come on when the ignition is turned on and the truck will not start. If he turns the ignition off and on, he says the truck will start. Then, when it does finally start, it will sometimes stall when pulling it into gear. We played with the ignition and a few other things with no avail. And help would be appreciated. Also, what does PMD stand for? He is new to the diesel world. This site sure is a big help.

PMD: (pronouced PMD) n. 1. Diesel-eaze for Pump Mounted driver, 2. Sometimes refered to as a FSD (Fuel Silinoid Driver). 3. Can stand for another other combination of names you can call that little thingy when it goes up on ya.

Some times the wait to start lite won't stay on long enough because the computer thinks the water temp is warm enough when it isn't.
You can easily check this by unplugging the water temperature switch in the water crossover pipe near the thermostat. The computer goes into default and thinks the water temp is -40*.
The glow cycle is longer and the cold advance is extended.

Bad connections on the battery terminals will make the glow plugs not cycle enough to start the truck. Ignition wire is the one that controls this.
