: feb diesel power mag
dmax3500 01-17-2007, 11:00 PM just got the feb 07 diesel power mag ,theres an article about the new llm everything seem the same as 06' except the exhaust, but the article says the 07 duramax is just an interam engine, and is leading to a completly different engine series
thejdman04 01-18-2007, 03:40 PM I feel (though dont know) that in coming years the d max will still be that, though they will up the cubes, (cummins 5.9 to 6.7 and ford 6.0 to 6.4.) I dont think theyll drop the d max or change it that much but yes it may get bigger to meet emissions esp in 2010 when the new round of regs come in.
stevebos 01-18-2007, 04:20 PM Absent substantiation from GM (or Isuzu), any comments about the future of the Duramax is mere speculation.
Information on GM's websites contain references to model year "2007i."
Is it possible that the 1998 agreement between GM and Isuzu that resulted in DMAX Ltd is effective during a specific term, and that the current agreement may be close to it's end?
From the Izusu website:
http://www.isuzu.co.jp/world/investor/fact/gm.html
"1998 In the U.S.A., DMAX, Ltd. was set up jointly by Isuzu and GM to manufacture diesel engines.
1999 GM raised its share of equity in Isuzu to 49.0% from 37.5%.
2003 GM's share of Isuzu's capital was altered from 49% to 12%.
Isuzu and GM established a new joint venture company called GMI Diesel Engineering Ltd. (GMIDEL) for powertrain systems."
:)
xeonpro 01-18-2007, 04:42 PM GMs US diesel partnership w/ Isuzu was called DMAX, LTD...Which GM now owns 100% of, along with all Duramax-associated patents/technologies.
from wikipedia's Isuzu page
August 14, 2002 - General Motors reduces its 49% share in Isuzu to 12% as part of a comprehensive recapitalization of Isuzu. GM also takes full control of DMAX and Isuzu Motors Polska, with Isuzu losing not just the factories but also ownership of all engine designs.Isuzu Troopers Are dropped out from the american isuzu lineup
dmax3500 01-18-2007, 05:09 PM no, what i read was the technoligy is going to change, ,,maybe to overhead cams diff inj, maybe diff cyls v-10-v12-v6 how nows?
Electro 01-18-2007, 05:22 PM not sure where, but i thought i heard of a 7.4 duramax by 2010.. i'm sure it was rumor central from somewhere.
duramaxdiesel 01-18-2007, 05:37 PM I believe there will be a new Dmax very soon. Somewhere around 400HP and a minimum of 800 lb.;)
RayMich 01-18-2007, 06:10 PM After reading that article, I figure their projections are merely speculation. The cost of owning a diesel is definitely going up, so the impact on sales is going to be interesting to watch. Sales volumes are going to have a huge impact on what manufactures offer for sale in the future.
GMCTRUCK 01-18-2007, 08:30 PM I also have heard of a 454 Duramax coming.

Yeah Looks like GM got what they needed from the Isuzu Partnership and Dumped them like a used hooker:eek: part of their big restructure....somthing like 45 mil IIRC for selling off most of the Isuzu shares.
bartman 01-21-2007, 05:59 PM The power wars are still on, even with the new emissions crap, the quest for the most power and torque will continue. I think we will see a larger displacement Duramax in the future, but who knows. Only time will tell.

Heres what the artilce says that you posted:
DETROIT — General Motors said it has developed a new "clean" turbodiesel for its future pickups and utility vehicles that will boost fuel economy by 25 percent.
More importantly, the engine will also meet the tough new federal emissions standards that will be phased in starting in 2010.
GM released few details on the new engine, a twin-cam V8 that will use a high-pressure common-rail fuel system, as well as a NOx after-treatment system with a diesel particulate filter to meet the emission-level regulations in all 50 U.S. states.
The new V8 turbodiesel will deliver "class-leading torque, power and refinement while maintaining a significant fuel-efficiency advantage over comparable-output gasoline engines." With its narrow block, the diesel will fit into the same size engine compartment as a small-block V8 gasoline engine, GM said.
The company said it has also revised its existing 6.6-liter Duramax V8 diesel to meet tougher emissions standards that begin in January. Offered in GM's medium- and heavy-duty pickups and vans, the Duramax diesel is available in 300- and 330-horsepower variants; the latter delivers 620 pound-feet of torque.
What this means to you: If you thought most of the cutting-edge developments in diesel technology were taking place in Europe, GM begs to differ — and plans to offer them to American truck and SUV buyers in 2010.
I specially like the part I highlited in red. Hmmmmmmm...
I guess i jus might have to put one of those new Duramaxs in one of my chevelles :D

Stephen 01-23-2007, 03:56 PM I believe the new V-8 DOHC will be the one used in the 1/2 ton truck.
I was at the dealership today getting some service done on my truck ,The tech told me the neww Lmm is gonna have a temp of 500 degree at the exhaust tip of the pipe.Is this true or what?
dmax3500 01-23-2007, 09:54 PM iv'e got it, we can all have diesel powered corvettes
clancutters 01-23-2007, 10:10 PM iv'e got it, we can all have diesel powered corvettes
:muahaha: :exactly:
yitsock 01-23-2007, 10:51 PM GM has A LOT of engineers working on diesel engines, big and small! A LOT OF THEM.
There will be more to come, different sizes and flavors I'm sure.
