We got the 96 for a service truck. It was way weak and would barely start below 50 degrees. Thanks to info from here I got it diagnosed and it is running much better.
The vacuum pump was totally inop. Replaced that and fixed a couple of vacuum leaks. Now the wastegate will close. Turbo seems to be much happier about that.
Tested glow plugs and found 5 bad. Replaced all of them since the bad ones were also the hardest to get to. A couple of the glow plugs were melted pretty bad and one was missing about 1/4 inch of the tip. They were 11g's and were easy to get out. I replaced them with 60g's and I could not believe how well it started this morning. Was about 28 out and barely spun over before firing up. Plugs cycled a few times and truck idled perfectly.
