Sorry if I missed a post about this, but why does the LLY smoke more than the LB7's?? Is it the turbo?

Umm? I can't get mine to smoke at all unless I punch it off idle and then just a tiny bit...

Put an edge juice and attitude in it and see if it smokes. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif I never see any smoke coming out of my LLY with 5k miles. You might want to have it checked. I've read several posts where injector problems can cause smoking.

Mo power, mo power, mo power! Max Power, is your logic the faster we goes the less smoke we see http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif?

DH, what color smoke is it? Does it idle rough? JJ

I finally got mine to smoke. If I floor it from a stop I see a cloud behind me. Other than that I have never seen mine smoke.

Like Max Power said. Put an Edge in, stomp on it anytime and you'll see a nice big black cloud (just like what puffs out of the big rigs) flowing from your tailpipe. I'm guess that once I get a 4" exhaust, that cloud will just get bigger. Most fun to do at night and watch headlights behind disappear!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif

ALL unmodified LLY's and LB7's will release a small amount of smoke/soot under hard acceleration from a low speed or from stop.

If you don't see it or don't beleive it, try this:

Have someone get behind you with their headlights on after dark, then immediately go to WOT while you look at their headlights in your rearview mirror. You will see a small amount smoke/soot. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif

Im gonna second the notionabout the Edge with Attitude system smoking!!!! i was in town tonight and a stupid rice burner honda punk was tackin out his engine at a stop light....sooooo i dialed up the attitude to level 5 with low boost fueling at 5....weeell as the story goes i filled his car completly with black smoke....at the next light he was cussing and telling me i was #1...sooo i tought him again that diesels are nothing to be messed with http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif.....weather or not he understood is still a mystery b.c his Oxygen levels had to be low inside his carhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif.....oh well some other people at the light got a good laugh out of it too!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

Have fun with the smoke!!!

Hey Jared do you have a stock tranny still before you dialed it to 5? I just got my (2004.5) LLY Edge/Juice and am a little scared to take it past 3.

Yeah i have a stock tranny....the only time i mess with level 5 is when im trying to blow smoke...usually for regular driving i use L2 or L3....if im above that i run it pretty easy....HOWEVER if your playin with level 5 be sure you lock it out of OD and INTO tow haul mode....One day i put the truck into limp mode b.c i had forgotten about havin it in level 5 earlyer that day...so i went to pass someone on a 55 mph two lane road and when i punched it the truck just jerked a few times then wouldnt rev over 2 grand.....talk bouta sick feeling, now that is one...but all was well after i shut the truck down.......but anyway, just play around with it, take it easy, and use the defuel on all shifts and youll be aight, not a bad idea to wate for the TQ converter to lock in either before ya giver WOT.........have fun!

*on side note, this is just my opinion and how iv been runing mine...anyone with actual knowledge would be best to ask http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif

duffy, read up in the allison forum, it should give you an idea on what one will take.

All T/H does is raise shift points and cause the converter to lock through part of 2 all the way through the gears(instead of part of 4th and in 5th in regular) and of course all the downshifting stuff. But at WOT your converter locks anyway even if your not in T/H. Watch your attitude sometime if you have it and set it to the gear viewing screen, it shows when the converter locks. Anyway......line pressure actually drops when the converter locks.

Locking out OD if you are going to play hard is a good idea though, you will ussualy slip 5th first and easiest.

the consensus is anything over 90hp on a lb7 is playing with fire on a lb7 long term no harm type stuff, an lly is down on torque a bit with a chip so I would assume 90hp or so is still about the limit???

I am curious why the lillies smoke more than the LB7's(when comparing a mild chiped truck from both categories)

BTW JMO but bouncing around on power levels alot confuses the ally and aint the best. JMO Getting on it in 1 gear aint going to do anything but having it constantly trying to compensate for different shifts isnt the best.

The reason that they smoke more is becuase the injectors are smaller and they have to be held open longer to generate the same amount of fuel. Basically they have this small injector and now they stretch the pulse from the factory more than the LB7. This is why you guys are not seeing the huge hp number like on the LB7.

I saw this thread and it made me wonder as well so I asked a good source. It makes sense to me.

To bad you can't get infor from too many good sources any more.

If the injector deal is true the it sucks to be an LLY ownerhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif well from a bombing standpoint. anybody confirm or deny this? I thought maybe the EGR had a bit to do with it too??? But I was waiting to hear from some dudes in the know

So what happens when you put in BIGGER injectors into the LLY ?? Lots more power ?

I know they have been testing injectors since Feb. THe y do smoke a lot when combined with tuning. You would have to ask them more on something like that.

I know at the last drag race their 4x4 dually stomped and LB7 HJ/*** Stacked with a 150Bullydog pup. I think there was over 1/2 sec difference!
