The last time I used my '93, I barely made it home. I thought that I must have run out of fuel (gauge was just below 1/4) so I put 5 gallons in.

I ran the lift pump till I had no air coming out and then it started real hard. After a few minutes it died and didn't want to restart. I opened the drain valve and it loud sucking noise. (or might have possible been pressure but I doubt it) It took over 30 seconds of running the list pump to get fuel coming out again.

Since the drain is before the filter, I think I can leave that out. I am just looking for ideas on where to start. Can a lift pump still work but only let a small amount of fuel through? Pickup in fuel tank plugged? return line plugged? something else??? (I don't think it is a hole in the fuel line on the suction side of the pump because it has steady flow out the drain)

All the above.

Lift pump can 'jitter' without pumping fuel, particularly as head pressure begins to develop.

Open drain, turn on pump, put your finger over drain - fuel will spew around finger if under pressure

Or put a gage on the open drain, for 4min and ~7max pressure.

Next step would be inlet line from tank - plugged sock, plugged line, collapsed rubber or pinched steel line, etc.

if the lift pump is working but not while running it could be the oil press.sensor.that is if '93 is like '94 in that department. i know the '93 has a mechanical inj. pump but the delivery should be the same.

Yes, the fuel pump system (up to the IP) is ecatly the same as on my '95.

I already tried jumpering out the plug so the pump runs continous and it did the same thing.

I will have to find a gauge to check the pressure yet but I tried pluging it with my finger and I could easily hold it back (kind of expected with only 7 psi) but if I let up it sprays out pretty good.
