I've seen the question posted before about putting 315's on stock rims, but I'd like to know what anyone who has 315 BFG A/T's on their stock rims thinks about 1) safety, 2) performance and 3) the tread life. I currently have 295 BFG A/T's on my 06' GMC CC 4x4 DMax w/ stock rims and have 26K on them and still have plenty of tread, so I feel like there wearing fairly in comparison to the other two sets I currently have on my K5 Blazer and Tahoe and to the multiple sets I've had on other previous trucks (BFG's are only tire I buy, I've had a couple of sets of Bridgestones and Uniroyal's before and wasn't overly pleased with tread life on any of them). As far as safety, I feel like the 295's perform fine, I've always driven 4 x 4 trucks with oversized tires, so in comarison, the set up I've got now actually feels like it handles better than some of the other set ups I've had in the past. That being said, I guess my actual question is: is there going to be a big difference in going up to the 315 A/T on my next set as far as performance? I live in Charleston, SC, I've seen alot of Chevy & GMC HD's around here running BFG 315's on stock rims. I don't do any heavy hauling with my truck, 95% of the driving is on the highway with an empty bed. I know there's a concern with mounting such a large tire on rims as narrow as the stock rims are. Anybody who has 315 BFG on stock rims - tell me what you like / dislike about it and what your concerns are if any running them.

I feel like they are safer than 305's on 16's, and safer than 265's on H2's. The 265's are too narrow. The sidewall on the 305's are too short. That being said, I feel like it is proportional to the sidewall. The 315 is wider, but it is taller as well, thus allowing the stress and flex to be dispersed over a larger area. Actually it is mathmatically equal on both 295 and 315. There are some wear issues, but a quality tire like the bfg minimizes that.
