Does anyone know of if there is a 6 speed transmission that will bolt up in place of my 5-speed and still connect to the transfer case. Any +'s or -'s in doing this?

i think that the nv4600 is the 6 speed version(newer) of the nv4500 which is what you should have. why the swap? what are you doing with the 5 speed? condition? miles?

My 4500 was rebuilt about 3000 miles ago. I was just exploring the idea of putting a 6speed behind my 6.5. Any known pros or cons.

I've thought of a 6 speed to replace my 5 speed when the time comes for a rebuild. The NV 5 speed has a huge gap in the ratios between 3rd & 4th gear. Tough to deal with when towing. Haven't heard of a 6 speed NV. I've wondered whether the ZF 6 speed used with the Duramax would fit.

This would be a good project to know about for manual 6.5 owners.

I have the NVG4500 in my k2500HD 93. I have thought about an eletric gearsplitter like bigrigs use. .15 overdriven. This would force me to buy a 2wd NVG4500 and divorce the transfercase or I can't split the gears in 4wd.

The NVG5500 is a 6 speed but it's so much bigger than the 4500 that you'd have to cut wider path for it. it's 50% bigger.

Advance adapters makes a living off of guys who want to swap gear in that doesn't fit together.
