: bumper / brush guard / whatever you call it
wanaDmax 01-16-2007, 04:50 PM okay, so for my truck i was thinking of getting one of those HUGEEE bumpers, like on this truck http://www.gmfleet.com/image/pdf/EMP_Truck.pdf (acrobat required)
or this one http://www.gmfleet.com/image/pdf/LSSV_Cargo_Troop_Carrier.pdf
what are those bumpers called, and where can i get one???
Z71offroader 01-16-2007, 05:17 PM i have never seen one of them before. and i personally dont like the way those looks. some others that looks similar would be buckstop, arb, and warn, even road armor look similar to them.
SCQTT 01-16-2007, 06:01 PM I would love that bumper and I really dig those wheels, but knowing our govenment those are more than likely $65,000 options
AutoMag 01-16-2007, 06:07 PM Going by the GM logo on the page I would start with a GM dealer!!!!
The first link looks almost like a Warn Enforcer bumper with the added grill protection. Warn does not offer the Enforcer bumper for my truck which is a 2001 Chevy.
wanaDmax 01-16-2007, 09:39 PM yeah, i was looking at warn, and they have more of the heavy duty-im going to drive right over you if you dont get out of the way- look im going for =)
Unit453 01-16-2007, 09:49 PM Oh yeah and YOUR dealer says.....
"We dont have a calibration for 285's to adjust your speedo"
Yeah, sure you dont.....
Just like 285's will fry your tranny......
Yeah, sure it will....
wanaDmax 01-16-2007, 10:42 PM what?
Dirt Dog 01-16-2007, 10:58 PM Yes, the dealer should be able to ask GM Sales Engineering for a list of the part numbers for RPO code "EMP" that would give you the GM numbers added to a stock vehicle to build the GSA version.
Unit453 01-16-2007, 11:12 PM what?
I'll put it in English for you.
Dealers often complain of customers trucks coming in for service with 285's on them. Some deny warranty claims based on tires alone.
Some members here go to the dealership to have them recalibrate the speedometer for 265's or sometimes 285's. Dealers always say that GM has no calibration for 285's that GM dosent reccomend them on these trucks.
Does that make sence to you?
hemisareslow 01-17-2007, 01:54 AM Not many things gm does makes sense to me....hmmm lets make a 2500 series suburban...and not offer the duramax in it, but hey lets stuff the dmax in an h1 and charge 147,000 bucks for it....yup...thats a good one

when did we start talking about tires?
Unit453 01-17-2007, 02:00 AM I was providing an example....Thats all...
This has come up before and many people see that GM is putting 285's on these trucks...
The brush guard is probably the same brand as the stock GM running boards.
duramaxguy04 01-17-2007, 02:11 AM Does anyone run a Westin Stainless Steel brush guard? I am thinking of buying one in the new few weeks for my 04 2500HD.
hemisareslow 01-17-2007, 02:13 AM Holy thread jack batman...
hemisareslow 01-17-2007, 02:15 AM when did we start talking about tires? he was just saying that just because you see that gm truck with that gm option...does not mean the dealer will help you get it...as in with the larger tires...he was just making a comparrison
Tom S. 01-17-2007, 07:59 AM what?
UNIT453 is referring to the fact that most dealers don't know chit.
Now to get back on track:
However, having said that, try going to your dealer and talking to the parts guy. If you get lucky, and the parts guy is on the ball, he can probably get the info for you. A word of caution though: aftermarket parts bought through the dealer will cost BIG $$$$. The best solution would be if you could find out where GM gets it from (these bumpers are NOT made by GM) and see if you can deal directly with the manufacturer. It is most likely the manufacturer sells a similar unit already and may in fact be one of the brands already mentioned.

How about 4 wheel steering to improve towing and manuvering and only putting it on a 1500HD? Maybe it wasn't strong enough for the Dmax torque, if that is the case why would you even develop it.
wanaDmax 01-18-2007, 11:50 AM maybe i could get the military bumpers from the manufacturer. but, i think im gunna go with the Warn Heavy Duty Bumper

They did put it in the 2500 Suburban/Yukon XL. The issue with the QS axle isn't torque or hp levels, it's towing limits (just under 10,000lbs.) due to heat generated due to high weights behind the axle. Delphi did come out with an American Axle QS, one rated for the D-Max, but GM chose not to pick it up. Again, poor marketing/excessive price gouging with the original QS turned off consumers and dealers to QS.
Delphi has a number of D-Max/QS test mule running around with out problems.

What?
You're 14!!!!!
You've got a few years to wait buddy before you even get your drivers license.
You plan on gettin a job first to be able to afford one of these trucks?
wanaDmax 01-28-2007, 04:26 PM lol, its never too early to plan for your d-max. and i only have to pay for half of it :)
RYDNHI4x4 01-28-2007, 04:30 PM well in another 2 yrs when you get your license you will have saved enough to buy the dmax out right, but as for now i wouldnt worry to much about it.
wanaDmax 01-28-2007, 06:36 PM lol, im not =)
and ima wait 3-4 years. just till i get the hang of driving XD
Z71offroader 01-29-2007, 12:17 AM im a big planner like you are. 4 years ago when i was your age i was doing the same thing! Problem i ran into is either getting another truck or they changed body styles, which might be for you since if you go new, unless you buy a used one.
wanaDmax 01-29-2007, 01:24 AM yeah, im looking at a 06.5, or 06
WanaDmxsub 01-29-2007, 01:34 AM Keep searching that same site and you will find the GM part #'s.
SpoolinTurbo 01-29-2007, 04:51 AM When I was 14 I was looking through the Summit catalog, local want ads, and saving newspaper money and computer tech money to get a 68 Chevelle... bouncing parts ideas off my dad....
never got the car, but it was incentive to save up, then i blew the dough when i finalized going into the military...
Now I have 2 diesel rigs ;)
FastCR 01-29-2007, 09:36 AM bouncing parts ideas off my dad....
After about 20 minutes my dad tells me to shut up, he's watching Gilmore Girls.
wanaDmax 01-29-2007, 01:35 PM ahahhah
rolloffhill 01-29-2007, 01:38 PM Say, shouldn't you be in school right now, learning your multipication tables????
wanaDmax 01-29-2007, 04:45 PM lol, no. its a teacher work day. we just had finals. there getting their grades in.
toydealer 01-29-2007, 05:40 PM Yeah, i don't have a listing for any of those parts, and we've even had a few come through the dealership.im guessing it military order only. Ive also been trying to get a response from gm on the offering of 285's on these trucks but saying tha allison can't handle them on consumer trucks
lilrazz 01-29-2007, 08:53 PM Just a suggestion. http://www.truckaddons.com/Catalog/subpages/road-armor-stealth-bumpers.htm
Hope it works. If not www.truckaddons.com
The road armor bumpers are sweeet! But they might set you back over $1000+
Oh and wanadmax, good luck findin a D-max. I was looking for a long while. And ya, I'm still in high school. Tryin to make the guys jealous and the girls go crazy. lol.
Nothing comes close to Duramax.

lol, trying to make the girls crazy in a D-Max, lol.
and im not into the stealthy look.
and toydealer, i think not offering 285's is a bad idia, but why not offer it anyways, cause the LMM has 650tq, yet the A1000 can only handle 630tq :wtf:
anywayssss. yeah...
lilrazz 01-29-2007, 10:58 PM Oh yeah, wanadmax, if you're plannin to have 700 hp and 1000 ft. lbs of torque, you'd might have to plan on getting a new tranny. <<<<SUNCOAST>>>>
I don't know, that's just my opinion, maybe somebody else told you already.

and something a WHOLE lot more powerful than a 6 gun..... :p:
wanaDmax 01-30-2007, 12:58 AM like EFIlive, i know. i was thinking bout an all titanium tranny  :D
but i dont know where to get those
hemisareslow 01-30-2007, 01:11 AM Here is a great site that might be more help to you...customize this (www.tonka.com)
Ranger22 01-30-2007, 01:12 AM like EFIlive, i know. i was thinking bout an all titanium tranny  :D
but i dont know where to get those
Huh? Let me know when you find one.............
In all seriousness, take a look at the allison aftermarket section. I think you'll see that an all titanium tranny is not what you would need, albeit it sounds cool. Suncoast and ATS are the most popular tranny mods. These kind of upgrades do not come cheap at all, but spinning your tires through 3 and 4th gear is well worth it, right?
wanaDmax 01-30-2007, 07:20 PM lol, a 4th gear burnout would be cool  make those porche people jealous. but what comes in a suncoast or ats tranny? stronger gears? quicker shifts?
and hemisareslow, i used to respect you, but thats not cool, were all D-Maxers, some dont have a d-max to do it in, but dont try to bring others down, were in this together.

I imagine that Hemi was only posting that comment in plain fun, at some level most all of us can relate to being young and enthusiastic about our first vehicle. Good luck.
Without relegating this thread to talk about trannies, the aftermarket kits from SC and ATS will upgrade your torque converter to one that couples quicker and is designed to handle higher torque loads, upgrade the clutch packs to ones with larger (and in most cases, better) gripping surfaces, and increase the line pressure inside the tranny. The net effect is quicker, firmer shifts and solid locking while in fifth gear.
Now, back to your original topic: here are some aftermarket makes that you shoud consider:

That should be enough to keep you busy for a while. There are tons more, but you should get the idea with these.

wanaDmax 01-31-2007, 07:33 PM since it seems like someone..... keeps waking up on the wrong side of the bed, and has no helpful advice to offer, im guna go with the warn HD bumper.
this thread, declared be me is officially DEAD. if you wana post on it, you can. but why go through the trouble to?
rolloffhill 01-31-2007, 08:24 PM What is guna?? :confuzeld
How about spend less time worrying about DMAX you don't have, and more time in ENGLISH class studying....;)
lilrazz 01-31-2007, 08:45 PM WanaDmax, I new to this forum also, but sometimes you just take the cr@p that is thrown at you, it was just a little humor, listen to hemisareslow. When I was 14 ( 3.5 years ago), I too wanted something nice, but settled for a '96 GMC, and I love it still. Beggers can't be choosers.
Also, guys offered you info including me, ranger22 had 11 different sites for you.
I know I shouldn't really be talking, but loosen up a little. If you can't take a joke now, just wait until you reach High School.
Sorry for getting in the argument.
hemisareslow 02-01-2007, 12:31 AM What is guna?? :confuzeld

No, he cant learn on my trucks :D

sorry kid...i didn't wake up on the wrong side of the bed...just the wrong side of the payment book...and i'm with skip..perhaps your next thread should be what version of hooked on phonics to buy....rather than what bumper to get for a truck you do not have yet
compression67 02-01-2007, 07:38 AM I got mine from Rocking R Ranch. It's built like brick knackie house! However the newer ones look a little different, that dude seems pretty cool though - he'll probably build one anyway you want it. Price is fair too - shipping sucks though!
I went ahead with the rear bumper too. So now my truck is ready to take it in both ends:eek: , but I'm afraid I'll never be ready for that. Their website is in my garage.

That's funny, I knew about the brand you run with, but I couldn't recall the name just right to get the website. Thanks for posting. Those are some good looking bumpers...........
