i am intersested in buying efi live for my 2001 duramax. I have read a lot about it on this site and have learn about many of the amazing things it can do for my truck. my question is has any one used it on a 98 chevy 5.7 liter vortec. my dad has this truck and i know efi live is compatible with in and am wondering how it would work for him. if anyone has any experience with this any helf would be greatly appreciated.

i am mainly just wondering if it will do the same things as it will to my lb7 and if the programming is in a similiar format. and also will it be able to give him better gas mileage and/or more horsepower if tuned correctly. I know it is a very indepth program and will take much time and practice to figure out with any vehicle but i am mainly wondering if it will be worth the time and effort to try to reprogram his 98 5.7liter vortec or if it is just shooting a dead horse. thanks alot for help it is greatly appreciated.

i belive it the same software so the format and overall fell should be the same. but it is tuning a gas not diesel so that is complete differant.
IMHO the 5.7l vortec was a still born horse.

cool thanks. it would probably be a lot easier for me to tune a gaser than a diesel anyways. I am fairly new to the diesel world and know a decent amount but i know it will take a lot of playing around with efi live before i really figure it out. again thanks for the help

You can hurt a gasser very easy with EFILive or any other cusom tunning software, so be very carful. Also, remember that even thou you can build a tune for the Duramax that will add 250-275 to the stock tunning. With a gasser, you will be lucky to add 10-15 rwhp.

Also, EFILive just added support for the 1998 engines, so you may want to check with them about the possible need of V-2, or if V-1 will also work. I believe they both work, but don't know for sure.

Might be stating the obvious, but you will also need to use two different sets of PIDs. One set will be diesel specific while the other will be gasser specific. There is a large list of PIDs to chose from so that you can monitor which ever ones corelate with the vehicle you are tuning.
